Why generate your own A-Level bonding cards

Most A-Level chemistry bonding flashcards you find online were written for a different course, so the wording and emphasis often miss your exam board. Generating your own A-Level chemistry bonding flashcards from the notes you were given keeps the vocabulary and the level of detail consistent with what you will be asked.

  • Cards follow your teacher's notes and textbook wording
  • Spaced repetition focuses practice on the bonding ideas you forget
  • Photos of handwritten or printed pages are read with text recognition
  • Exports to Anki and CSV are available on the Plus plan
Example A-Level chemistry bonding flashcards
What is an ionic bond?Electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions, formed when electrons are transferred from a metal atom to a non-metal atom.
What is a dative covalent bond?A covalent bond where both shared electrons come from the same atom, as with the nitrogen in the ammonium ion.
Why do metals conduct electricity?Delocalized electrons from the outer shells move freely through the lattice of positive ions, carrying charge.
What makes a covalent bond polar?A difference in electronegativity between the bonded atoms, which pulls the shared electrons toward the more electronegative atom.
Why is water's shape bent? Two lone pairs on oxygen repel the bonding pairs more strongly than bonding pairs repel each other, giving an angle of about 104.5 degrees.

Built from your material

Upload PDFs, DOCX or PPTX files, plain notes, or photos of textbook pages. The flashcards cover what your teacher actually taught.

Spaced repetition

Cards you find hard come back sooner, so you spend time on the bonding ideas you are still shaky on.

Export when you need it

On Plus, export to Anki, PDF, DOCX or CSV so your decks work alongside the rest of your revision.

How it works

Upload your bonding notes

Add a PDF, slides, a Word file, typed notes or a photo of a page from your textbook.

Review the generated cards

Check the front and back of each card against your specification and delete or edit any that miss the point.

Study on a schedule

Work through the deck in the browser, and let spaced repetition bring back the cards you struggle with.

Start with the topic you are revising. Upload the section on ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, or the lesson on electronegativity and polarity, and DeckOwl turns it into question-and-answer cards. You can then add cards for shapes and intermolecular forces as you cover them in class.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for A-Level chemistry bonding?

Aim for one card per idea, such as each bond type, its key property, and each molecular shape. Split a long topic into smaller decks so each one stays focused on a single part of bonding.

What bonding topics should my flashcards cover?

Cover ionic, covalent, dative covalent and metallic bonding, along with electronegativity, polarity, intermolecular forces and VSEPR shapes. Check your specification, because exam boards word these topics differently.

Can I export these flashcards to Anki?

Yes, the Plus plan includes export to Anki, along with PDF, DOCX and CSV. The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports.

Is there a student discount?

Students get 40% off with a school email. You can start without a credit card.
