Why build your own A-Level macroeconomics flashcards

Ready-made A-Level macroeconomics flashcards cover the basics, but they rarely match your exam board's specification or the way your teacher framed each topic. DeckOwl works from your own material instead, so the cards reflect the diagrams, case studies and definitions you were actually taught.

  • Use your own lecture slides, notes and textbook photos as the source.
  • Cover definitions, AD/AS diagrams, fiscal and monetary policy and exchange rates.
  • Review cards on a spaced repetition schedule that focuses on what you miss.
  • Export to Anki or CSV on the Plus plan when you want to study elsewhere.
Example A-Level macroeconomics flashcards
What is the multiplier effect? The ratio by which an initial change in spending raises equilibrium national income. In a simple model with no taxes, imports or savings leakages it equals 1 divided by (1 minus the marginal propensity to consume).
What is the difference between a movement along the AD curve and a shift of it?A movement along the AD curve is caused by a change in the price level. A shift is caused by a change in a non-price determinant such as consumer spending, investment, government spending or net exports.
What is the output gap?The difference between actual real GDP and potential (full-employment) GDP. A negative output gap indicates spare capacity in the economy.
What does the short-run Phillips curve show?An inverse relationship between the rate of inflation and the rate of unemployment. The expectations-augmented version suggests the trade-off may not hold in the long run.
What is quantitative easing?Central bank purchases of longer-term government bonds and other assets, used when the policy interest rate is near zero to increase the money supply and lower long-term interest rates.

Cards you find difficult come back sooner, so your time goes on the topics you are still getting wrong.

Study in the browser

Start on the free plan with no credit card. Study sessions run in the browser on any device you use for revision.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add the PDF, slides, DOCX file or photos from your A-Level macroeconomics course.

Generate your cards

DeckOwl pulls out definitions, diagrams and key points and turns them into flashcards.

Review on schedule

Study each day, and the spaced repetition schedule brings back the cards you are least sure of.

Macroeconomics rewards precise definitions and clear diagrams, so a good card set tests both. Keep one idea on each card, include the evaluation points that your mark scheme rewards, and review the cards you miss most often rather than rereading whole chapters.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for A-Level macroeconomics?

Aim for one card per key definition, diagram and evaluation point in each topic. Short daily sessions work better than long cramming, and the cards you get wrong most often deserve the most attention.

What should A-Level macroeconomics flashcards cover?

Focus on definitions, aggregate demand and supply, fiscal and monetary policy, and the causes and effects of exchange rate changes. Include the evaluation points your exam board rewards, such as time lags, trade-offs and the role of expectations.

Can I export my flashcards to Anki?

Yes, export to Anki is included on the Plus plan, which also covers PDF, DOCX and CSV export. The free plan lets you study in the browser but does not include exports.

Can DeckOwl read photos of my notes?

Yes, photos of pages are read with text recognition and turned into flashcards. Check the generated cards against your original notes before revision, especially for diagrams and formulas.
