Why Dutch vocabulary needs its own cards

Dutch words are easy to read on a page and harder to recall a week later, especially nouns where the article matters. Keeping each word on its own card, with the meaning on the back, makes dutch vocabulary flashcards a practical way to build a working vocabulary from the lists your class already gives you.

  • Put the article (de or het) on the front of noun cards.
  • Add a sample sentence to the back of verb cards to show usage.
  • Review new words the same day you learn them, then let spacing take over.
  • Move cards you can already recall out of daily review by studying them less often.
Example Dutch vocabulary flashcards
Hoe gaat het?How are you? Literally, how does it go?
de fietsbicycle. The article de marks a common-gender noun.
het huishouse. The article het marks a neuter noun.

lopento walk. This is the infinitive form of the verb.

Built from your material

Upload PDFs, DOCX or PPTX files, plain notes, or a photo of a page. The text is read and turned into cards from your own vocabulary list.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and cards you know come back later, so review time goes to the Dutch words you are most likely to forget.

Study anywhere

Study in the browser on the free plan. Paid plans add Anki and CSV export so your Dutch deck can move into the app you already use.

How it works

Add your word list

Upload a PDF, a photo of a vocabulary page, or paste your notes with Dutch words and their English meanings.

Generate your cards

DeckOwl creates a flashcard for each term, so you can check that the Dutch words and translations match your course.

Review on a schedule

Study a short session each day. Spaced repetition brings back the words you are about to forget.

Start with the words from your current lesson. Add the article to the front of each noun, such as de or het, so the gender is learned with the word instead of separately. Review in short sessions and let the schedule bring back the cards you miss.

Your own notes are the best source for a deck because they match what you will be tested on. DeckOwl reads uploaded PDFs, slides and photos of handwritten or printed pages, so the cards follow your course rather than a generic list.

Frequently asked questions

How many Dutch words should I learn each week?

Most learners do better with a small daily batch than one long weekly session. Keep new cards to an amount you can review in a short sitting, and add more once your old cards feel easy.

Should I learn de and het with each noun?

Yes. The article is hard to guess from the noun alone, so store it on the same card, for example de fiets for bicycle. Dutch nouns use de or het, and that choice is part of the word.

Can I export my Dutch flashcards to Anki?

Export to Anki is a paid feature, available on the Plus plan at $39 per year or $7.99 per month. The free plan lets you study the cards in your browser.

Is there a free plan to try it first?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and you do not need a credit card to start. Students can get 40% off a paid plan with a school email.
