What good multiplication flashcards look like

Good multiplication flashcard examples put one fact on the front and a short answer on the back, such as 7 × 8 on one side and 56 on the other. Mixing plain facts with word problems, like rows of desks or equal groups of stickers, shows when to multiply instead of add.

  • Put one multiplication fact on each front, not several at once.
  • Include the reverse order, such as 3 × 9 and 9 × 3, so the commutative rule gets practiced.
  • Mix in word problems so you learn to pick multiplication from the wording.
  • Review missed cards more often than the ones you already know.
Example multiplication flashcards for times tables
What is 7 × 8?56. This is one of the harder facts, so it is worth drilling on its own.
What is 6 × 9?54. The digits of multiples of 9 add to 9 (5 + 4 = 9), which makes this easy to check.
What is 4 × 7, and what is 7 × 4?28 for both. Multiplication is commutative, so changing the order does not change the product.
A class has 6 rows with 5 desks in each row. How many desks are there?30 desks. Multiply rows by desks per row: 6 × 5 = 30.
What is 12 × 0?0. Any number times zero equals zero, because there are no groups to add.

Facts and word problems

Cards cover single-digit facts, times tables and short word problems so you practice both recall and choosing when to multiply.

Your own material

Upload PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, notes or a photo of a worksheet, and the cards come from your own content.

Spaced repetition

Cards return at growing intervals, so the multiplication facts you miss show up more often than the ones you already know.

Review on a schedule

Spaced repetition brings back the facts you are most likely to forget.

Most students find the 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s slip first, so those deserve the most review. Keep each card to one idea, and check answers by reversing the order, since 8 × 6 should match 6 × 8.

Frequently asked questions

Which multiplication facts should I practice first?

Start with the times tables you are still learning, often the 6s through 9s, and add the rest after you answer those correctly. Reviewing the hardest facts most often usually produces the fastest gains.

What is a quick way to check multiplication answers?

Use the reverse order, since a × b and b × a give the same product. For the 9s, the digits of the answer add up to 9, so 9 × 6 = 54 because 5 + 4 = 9.

Can I export my multiplication flashcards?
