How to study Kannada vocabulary with flashcards

Kannada script is unfamiliar to many learners, so good Kannada meaning flashcards pair each word with its script, its romanized sound and its English gloss.

  • Put the Kannada script on the front and the meaning on the back, then test yourself in both directions.
  • Add the romanized form to the card so you can say the word aloud before checking the answer.
  • Group words by topic, such as family, food or school, so related meanings are learned together.
  • Export to Anki or CSV on a paid plan if you already keep a deck somewhere else.

Terms paired with meanings

Each card can keep the Kannada script, its romanized sound and its English meaning together.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner, and cards you know move to longer gaps between reviews.

How it works

Add your word list

Paste vocabulary from class, upload a chapter, or photograph a handout.

Generate the cards

DeckOwl drafts flashcards. Check each pair and edit any meaning that does not match your course.

Review on schedule

Study in the browser on the free plan, and let spaced repetition keep older words from slipping.

Study the base form of each word first. Kannada nouns and verbs change endings for case, tense and person, so a card for the dictionary form is easier to recall, and the common endings can become separate cards later. Keep each meaning short, since one or two English words is often enough to test recall.

Spacing matters more than volume. A small set reviewed on several separate days usually sticks better than a long list crammed into one session.

Frequently asked questions

How many Kannada words should go into one flashcard set?

Start with the words from a single lesson or chapter so each review session stays manageable. You can add more sets once the first one feels comfortable.

Should I learn Kannada words in their base form or with every ending?

Learn the base or dictionary form first, since that is the form you will look up. Add common endings as separate cards once the base words feel familiar.

Can DeckOwl make flashcards from a photo of Kannada text?

Yes, photos of pages are read with text recognition. Check the recognized script against the original before studying, because recognition errors are possible.

Can I export Kannada flashcards?

PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are included in Plus, which costs $39/year or $7.99/month. The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports, and no credit card is needed to start.
