Why build your own foundation flashcards

Ready-made sets rarely follow the exact topics on your board's foundation paper, so many students end up making their own foundation GCSE maths flashcards from class notes and past papers. That takes time, and it is easy to skip the methods you already feel fine about.

  • Cards come from your own class notes, worksheets and past papers.
  • Hard cards return more often; easy ones fade into longer gaps.
  • Photos of handwritten or printed pages are read with text recognition.
  • Free plan includes 3 generations per month with browser study.
Example GCSE maths foundation flashcards
How do you calculate a percentage increase from 20 to 25?Find the increase, divide by the original amount, then multiply by 100. Here 5 divided by 20, times 100, gives 25 percent.
What is the gradient of a straight line through (0, 2) and (4, 10)?Gradient is the change in y divided by the change in x: (10 - 2) divided by (4 - 0), which equals 2.
Simplify 3x + 5 - x + 22x + 7. Collect like terms: 3x minus x gives 2x, and 5 plus 2 gives 7.
What is the probability that two independent events both happen?Multiply the probabilities. For example, 1/2 times 1/3 equals 1/6.
What is the formula for the area of a triangle? One half times base times perpendicular height. The height must be perpendicular to the base, not the slanted side.

Upload PDFs, slides, Word files, plain notes or photos of worksheets. Text in images is read with text recognition.

Spaced repetition

Cards you find hard come back sooner, so practice time goes on the methods you still struggle with.

Study anywhere

Study in the browser on the free plan. Paid plans add exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, Word file, slide deck, text notes or a photo of a page from your foundation maths class.

Generate your cards

DeckOwl turns the content into flashcards. Check the cards and remove any that do not fit.

Review on a schedule

Study the cards in spaced repetition sessions and let the schedule bring back the ones you miss.

DeckOwl reads your own material and turns it into cards, so the questions match what your teacher actually covered. You can focus on topics like percentages, algebra and area, and skip anything you have already mastered.

Spaced repetition then shows each card again at the point you are likely to forget it. Short, regular sessions work better than one long cram before a mock exam.
