Revising GCSE RE with your own flashcards

Most GCSE RE revision comes down to remembering key terms, scripture references and the arguments for and against each ethical issue, and GCSE RE flashcards work well for that when you make them from your own class material rather than a generic list.

  • Make one card set per topic so each review session stays focused.
  • Write answers in your own words, then check them against your notes.
  • Include the scripture reference or source on the back of the card where your course asks for it.
  • Review a few minutes each day rather than cramming the night before an exam.
Example GCSE RE flashcards on Christianity and Islam
What does the Trinity mean in Christianity?Belief in one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
What are the Five Pillars of Islam?Shahadah (declaration of faith) · Salah (prayer) · Zakat (giving to charity) · Sawm (fasting in Ramadan) · Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah).
What is the Shema in Judaism?A central declaration of faith from Deuteronomy 6:4, affirming that the Lord is One.
What are the Five Ks in Sikhism?Kesh (uncut hair), kangha (comb), kara (steel bracelet), kachera (cotton undergarment) and kirpan (ceremonial sword).
What is ahimsa? The principle of non-violence toward all living beings, central to Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism.

Cards from your own material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of a page and get question-and-answer flashcards built from your class notes.

Spaced repetition

Cards you are about to forget come back at the right time, so terms and scripture references stay in memory.

Quizzes and mind maps too

Switch to multiple choice, true or false or short answer quizzes with explanations, or map how a topic's ideas connect.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add the slides, handouts or photos from your RE lessons. Text recognition reads the pages for you.

Check and edit the cards

Remove anything off-spec, rewrite answers in your teacher's wording and split long cards into smaller ones.

Review little and often

Study in the browser each day. Spaced repetition schedules the cards you find hardest.

DeckOwl reads your uploaded PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text or photo of a page and drafts question-and-answer cards. You check them, delete anything you do not need and add your teacher's wording where it matters. Spaced repetition then brings back the cards you are about to forget.

The free plan lets you study in the browser with three generations a month. Plus adds unlimited generations and exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV if you want to revise offline or in another app.

Frequently asked questions

How should I split my GCSE RE flashcards?

Make one set for each topic on your specification, such as a religion's beliefs or an ethical issue. Keep each set small enough to review in one sitting so you finish every session.

What is the best way to revise religious beliefs with flashcards?

Put the term or belief on the front and an explanation in your own words on the back. Say the answer aloud before you flip the card, and note where your teacher's wording differs.

Can I export my GCSE RE flashcards to Anki?

Yes, but export is a Plus feature. Plus also includes PDF, DOCX and CSV export and unlimited generations, while the free plan lets you study in the browser only.

Is there a discount for students?

Students get 40% off with a school email, and you do not need a credit card to start on the free plan.
