How to study German pronoun flashcards well

Most learners stall on German pronouns because ich, mir and mich look similar until they appear in a real sentence. German pronoun flashcards work best when each card asks for one form in one case, such as the accusative of er or the dative of sie, instead of a whole table at once.

  • Make one card per pronoun and case, with the example sentence on the back.
  • Keep the case order fixed: nominative, accusative, then dative.
  • Add the dative verbs you use often, such as helfen, geben and zeigen.
  • Review a short deck every day rather than one long session each week.
Example German pronoun flashcards
Accusative form of er (he)?ihn · Ich sehe ihn. (I see him.)
Dative form of ich (I)?mir · Er gibt mir das Buch. (He gives me the book.)
Dative form of sie (she)?ihr · Ich helfe ihr. (I help her.)
Accusative form of wir (we)?uns · Sie besuchen uns. (They visit us.)
Dative form of sie (they)?ihnen · Ich zeige ihnen die Karte. (I show them the map.)

Cards from your own material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text or a photo of a page. DeckOwl reads the text and turns the pronoun tables and example sentences into cards.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and cards you know fade into longer gaps, so case endings get practiced right before you would forget them.

Quizzes and mind maps too

Switch to multiple choice or short answer quizzes with explanations, or map how the cases connect to verbs like geben and helfen.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add your grammar notes, a worksheet PDF or a photo of your textbook page. No credit card is needed to start.

Generate your flashcards

DeckOwl creates question and answer cards from the pronoun forms and example sentences in your material.

Review on a schedule

Study in the browser each day. Missed pronouns return sooner until the case forms feel automatic.

Build your set from the tables in your own textbook or class handout, then add a sentence for each card so the verb context is visible. Review the nominative, accusative and dative cases in separate decks so you can see which case a verb takes before you try to recall the pronoun.

Frequently asked questions

Which German pronouns should I learn first?

Start with the personal pronouns in the nominative, accusative and dative cases, since most sentences use them. Learn the three cases in a fixed order so each new form builds on the last.

How many flashcards should I make for German pronouns?

A set of 30 to 50 cards covers the personal pronouns in all three cases plus common possessives. Split the set into smaller decks by case so you can drill one table at a time.

Can I export German pronoun flashcards to Anki?

Yes, but exports are a paid feature. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export along with unlimited generations, and you can start on the free plan without a credit card.

Is there a free plan?

The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, with no exports. Students can get 40% off with a school email.
