Turn your Korean alphabet notes into printable flashcards

Printable Hangul sheets are easy to find, but a set built from your own chart, slides or photos of a textbook page is more useful. DeckOwl creates the cards from your material, and you can study them in the browser or export a PDF.

How to use Korean alphabet flashcards effectively

Hangul has 14 basic consonants and 10 basic vowels, and many learners want a Korean alphabet flashcards PDF they can print and carry. A ready-made sheet cannot show your textbook's romanization or the exact letters your class covers, so a set made from your own material usually works better.

  • Start with the 14 basic consonants before the double consonants.
  • Study vowels in pairs that look alike, such as ㅓ and ㅗ.
  • Say each sound aloud while you look at the symbol.
  • Read a few syllable blocks each day to practice combining letters.
Example Korean alphabet flashcards
ㄱThe g or k sound. It sounds like g at the start of a word and like k at the end.
ㅏThe vowel a, as in the a in father.
ㅓThe vowel eo, close to the u in fun. It is not the same as ㅗ, which is o.
ㅅThe s sound. Before the vowels ㅣ, ㅑ, ㅕ, ㅛ and ㅠ, it is pronounced like sh.
ㅇ at the end of a syllable (받침)The ng sound, as in sing. At the start of a syllable it is silent and only holds the vowel.

Built from your material

Upload a PDF, slides, notes or a photo of a Hangul chart. Each card comes from the text you gave the tool, so your teacher's romanization and examples stay in the set.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and cards you know come back later, so the consonants and vowels you mix up get the most review time.

PDF export on Plus

Print your cards as a PDF, or export to Anki or CSV. The free plan includes browser study with 3 generations a month.

How it works

Upload your Hangul source

Add a PDF, a DOCX, a PPTX, plain text or a clear photo of your alphabet chart.

Generate and review the cards

DeckOwl writes front and back cards. Edit anything that does not match your course before you study.

Study in the browser or export

Practice with spaced repetition online, or upgrade to Plus to export a printable PDF.

For the best results, keep each card to one symbol, its sound and one example word. Put the letter on the front and the sound on the back, then shuffle the order so you learn to recognize shapes rather than memorize their position. Review new letters daily for a few minutes, since short sessions are easier to keep up than one long session each week.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for the Korean alphabet?

Most learners start with the 24 basic letters, which are 14 consonants and 10 vowels, and then add the double consonants and compound vowels. Splitting the set into groups of 6 to 8 cards makes daily review manageable.

What is the hardest part of learning Hangul with flashcards?

Many learners confuse letters that look similar, such as ㅏ and ㅑ or ㅁ and ㅂ. Put look-alike letters in the same study session so you can compare them directly.

Can I print my flashcards as a PDF with DeckOwl?

PDF export is a Plus feature at $39 per year or $7.99 per month, and students get 40% off with a school email. The free plan lets you study the cards in the browser with 3 generations per month.

Do I need a credit card to try DeckOwl?

No. You can start on the free plan without a credit card and generate flashcards from your own Hangul notes.
