Why a custom Hangul deck beats a generic printout

Most printable Korean Hangul flashcards PDF sheets show every letter in one fixed order. That works for a first look at the alphabet, but it does little for the lesson you are actually on, or for the syllable blocks your class is drilling this week.

  • Cards come from your own course material, not a generic alphabet chart.
  • Spaced repetition brings back the Hangul letters and syllables you miss.
  • Photos of handouts work through text recognition.
  • Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export for printing or moving decks.
Example Korean Hangul flashcards
ㄱSounds like g at the start of a syllable and k at the end. It is the first letter of the Hangul alphabet.
ㅏA vowel sounding like ah, as in 아 (a).
ㅇ at the start of a syllableA silent placeholder. It makes no sound when it begins a syllable, as in 아 (a).
한 (han)One syllable block made of ㅎ (initial), ㅏ (vowel) and ㄴ (final consonant), stacked in a square.
ㅓA vowel sounding like uh, as in 어 (eo). It is written with the vertical line on the right side.

Built from your material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text notes or a photo of a handout. Cards follow the order and examples your teacher used.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner, so the hard consonants and batchim get more practice than the letters you already know.

Study in the browser

Study on any device with no install. The free plan includes three generations a month.

How it works

Upload your Hangul material

Add a PDF of your course pages, slides, or a photo of a worksheet. Text recognition reads images too.

Generate your flashcards

DeckOwl builds front and back cards from the material. Review them and remove anything you do not need.

Study and review daily

Work through the deck. Spaced repetition schedules each card based on how well you recalled it.

DeckOwl reads your own PDF, slides or photographed handouts and writes cards from them. Consonants you keep missing come back more often under spaced repetition, and the syllables from your textbook stay in your deck.

Exporting to PDF is part of the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month, along with Anki and CSV export. The free plan lets you study in the browser with three generations a month.

Frequently asked questions

How do I practice reading Hangul syllable blocks quickly?

Drill whole blocks instead of single letters. Treat the initial consonant, vowel and final consonant as one unit, say the syllable aloud, then flip the card.

Should I learn all the vowels before the consonants?

Most learners work through basic consonants and vowels in small groups, since every syllable needs both. Add batchim, the final consonants, once the basic shapes feel automatic.

Can I export my Hangul flashcards to Anki or print them?

Yes, but exports are paid features. Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export.

Do I need a credit card to try DeckOwl?

No. You can start on the free plan with three generations a month and no credit card. Students get 40% off with a school email.
