How to build MCAT flashcards from your own notes

MCAT prep produces a lot of dense material, and milesdown MCAT flashcards are only as useful as the notes behind them. DeckOwl does not include pre-made decks, so you start from the material you already have: upload a PDF, a slide deck, typed notes or a photo of a page, and the generator pulls out the key terms and turns them into cards.

  • Upload the chapter or section you are currently studying, not your whole library at once.
  • Keep each card to one fact or idea so you can answer it in a few seconds.
  • Rewrite cards you keep missing into a shorter question that tests the concept.
  • Review a little every day rather than cramming large batches the week before the exam.
Example MCAT biochemistry flashcards
Which enzyme is deficient in classic phenylketonuria?Phenylalanine hydroxylase, which converts phenylalanine to tyrosine.
What does Km represent in Michaelis-Menten kinetics? The substrate concentration at which the reaction rate is half of Vmax.
Which electron carrier passes electrons from Complex III to Complex IV in the electron transport chain?Cytochrome c, which shuttles a single electron between the two complexes.
What is the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation?pH = pKa + log([A-]/[HA]), which relates pH, pKa and the ratio of conjugate base to weak acid.
Which hormone raises blood glucose by stimulating glycogenolysis in the liver?Glucagon, which is released when blood glucose falls.

Cards from your own material

Upload PDFs, DOCX or PPTX files, typed notes, or a photo of a page, and get flashcards built from that content.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and cards you know come back less often, so review time goes where you need it.

Export on Plus

The Plus plan adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export so you can study wherever you prefer.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, slide deck, text file or photo of a page from your MCAT review.

Read through the cards

Go over the flashcards the generator creates from the key terms and concepts in your material.

Study on a schedule

Review each day and let spaced repetition bring back the cards that still need work.

Spaced repetition handles the scheduling. Cards you know come back less often, and cards you miss come back sooner, so your review time goes to the concepts that still need work before test day.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for MCAT biochemistry?

There is no fixed number. Most students learn more from a smaller set of cards on high-yield concepts than from copying every line of a chapter, so start with one section and add more as you go.

What is the best way to study MCAT flashcards?

Review them in spaced intervals rather than in one long session. When you miss a card, rewrite it as a shorter question so you test the idea instead of memorizing the wording.

Can I export my flashcards to Anki?

Yes, but Anki export is a paid feature included in the Plus plan, which costs $39 per year or $7.99 per month. Students get 40% off with a school email.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, with no exports, and you do not need a credit card to start.
