Why generate your own multiplication cards

Printed sheets of multiplication flash cards are handy, but a generic set rarely matches the facts a child is working on this week. Generating cards from the worksheet or lesson notes you already have means the set covers exactly the tables that need practice, from 1 times 1 up to 12 times 12.

  • Pick cards for the tables your child is still learning, not the whole set every time.
  • Use the true and false or short answer quizzes after the flashcards to check recall.
  • Print a PDF on Plus when you want paper cards for the car or the dinner table.
  • Keep the free plan for trying a set before you decide whether you need exports.
Example multiplication flash cards, 1 to 12
7 × 856. Seven groups of eight make 56, and it helps to remember 5, 6, 7, 8 as a pattern.
9 × 654. Nine times five is 45, and adding one more nine gives 54.
4 × 832. Double 4 × 4 = 16, then double again to get 32.
3 × 1133. Repeating the digit works for 11 times 1 through 9, so 3 × 11 is 33.
12 × 12144. This is twelve dozen, which is also 12 × 10 plus 12 × 2.

Built from your own material

Upload a PDF, slide deck, text notes or a photo of a page. The cards match the facts your teacher actually uses.

Spaced repetition

Facts you miss come back sooner and easy ones fade out, so the 1 to 12 tables stick without re-sorting a pile by hand.

Print or export

Plus exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV. The free plan keeps cards in the browser with three generations a month.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, a DOCX file, notes or a photo of a times table page. Text recognition reads photos.

Generate the cards

DeckOwl creates flashcards with the front as the problem and the back as the answer.

Study or print

Practice in the browser on the free plan, or export a printable PDF on Plus.

Start with the hardest facts, such as 7 times 8, 6 times 9 and 12 times 12, and keep the easy ones like multiples of 1 and 10 in the mix so they stay fresh. Ten to fifteen minutes a day with a short review of missed cards usually does more than one long session on the weekend.

Frequently asked questions

How should I practice multiplication facts from 1 to 12?

Drill the hardest facts daily in short sessions of about ten minutes. Group them by table, such as the 6s and 7s, and review missed cards more often than the ones you already know.

How many multiplication flash cards should a child study at once?

Most children do well with 15 to 25 new cards in a session, with a few older ones mixed in for review. Adding more than that at once tends to slow progress.

Can I print my flashcards?

Printing to PDF is part of the Plus plan, which is $39 a year or $7.99 a month. The free plan lets you study the cards in your browser.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan gives you three generations per month and browser study, and you do not need a credit card to start.
