Why build your own NCLEX RN flashcards

Saunders review books are a common source for NCLEX prep, and turning their chapters into NCLEX RN flashcards you can quiz yourself on is one of the fastest ways to remember the details that appear on the exam.

  • Upload chapters, outlines or lecture slides from your NCLEX review course.
  • Keep each deck to one topic, such as electrolytes or anticoagulants, so reviews stay focused.
  • Use quizzes with explanations to check understanding, not only recall.
  • Export to Anki or CSV on the Plus plan if you already study in another app.
Example NCLEX RN flashcards on electrolytes and medications
What is the normal adult serum potassium range?3.5 to 5.0 mEq/L. Values outside this range can cause dangerous heart rhythms, so check them before giving potassium or digoxin.
What is the antidote for heparin overdose?Protamine sulfate. It binds heparin and reverses its anticoagulant effect, so it is given when bleeding is severe.
What is the antidote for warfarin toxicity with bleeding?Vitamin K (phytonadione). It helps the liver make clotting factors again, and fresh frozen plasma or prothrombin complex may be given for urgent reversal.
Why does hypokalemia increase the risk of digoxin toxicity?Low potassium makes the heart more sensitive to digoxin because digoxin binds more readily to the sodium-potassium pump when potassium is low.
What is the minimum acceptable adult urine output per hour?About 30 mL/hour. Lower output suggests reduced kidney perfusion or fluid loss and should be reported.

Built from your own pages

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page. Flashcards come from the material you already have, so every card matches your course.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and cards you know fade out of the rotation, so your review time goes to the content that needs it.

Quizzes and mind maps too

Switch to multiple choice, true/false or short answer questions with explanations, or map a chapter's topics as a mind map when you need the big picture.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, slides, notes or photos of pages. Text is read from images with text recognition.

Generate your flashcards

DeckOwl turns the content into question-and-answer cards. Free accounts get 3 generations per month.

Study with spaced repetition

Review in the browser each day. Plus adds exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV for studying elsewhere.

Ready-made decks may skip the topics your instructor emphasized or the pages you struggled with. Generating cards from your own pages keeps the focus on what you actually need to learn, and spaced repetition brings back the cards you keep missing.

Frequently asked questions

What topics should NCLEX RN flashcards cover most?

Cover the NCSBN Client Needs categories: safe and effective care environment, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, and physiological integrity. Pharmacology and lab values appear across all of them, so give those regular review time.

How should I study NCLEX RN flashcards from a review book?

Work through one chapter at a time, make cards from it, and review them daily until you can answer without hesitation. Revisit earlier chapters in short sessions so the material stays fresh before exam day.

Can I export my flashcards to Anki?

Yes, on the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month, which also includes PDF, DOCX and CSV exports. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, with no exports.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. You can create an account and generate flashcards on the free plan without a credit card, and students get 40% off with a school email.
