Why custom phonics cards fit better than generic sets

Early readers move through sounds at different speeds, and a printed set rarely matches the order your class covers them. Building phonics made easy flashcards from your own lesson slides or worksheet photos keeps the cards aligned with what is being taught this week.

  • Letter-sound pairs for consonants and short vowels
  • Digraphs, trigraphs and vowel teams from your own word lists
  • Blends and silent e patterns with example words
  • Exports to Anki, CSV, PDF or DOCX on the Plus plan
Example phonics sounds for early readers
What sound does the digraph sh make? The /sh/ sound, as in ship and fish. Two letters work together to make one sound.
What sound does ai make in the word rain?Long a, /ā/. Ai is a vowel team that usually appears in the middle of a word.
What does a silent final e do in cap becoming cape?It makes the vowel say its long name, so the a becomes /ā/ and the e is not pronounced.
What is a trigraph?Three letters that make one sound, such as tch in catch or igh in night.
What is a consonant blend? Two or three consonants that each keep their own sound, such as st in stop or spl in splash.

Upload what you already teach

Send PDFs, PPTX slides, DOCX files, plain text or photos of pages. Photos are read with text recognition.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner, so letter sounds and spelling patterns have a better chance of sticking across sessions.

Quizzes and mind maps too

Create multiple choice, true/false and short answer quizzes with explanations, plus mind maps that group sound families.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a phonics lesson PDF, a slide deck, typed notes or a photo of a word list.

Review the generated cards

Check the sound and spelling pairs and edit any card that does not match how your class teaches it.

Study with spaced repetition

Study in the browser on the free plan, and let the schedule bring back the cards you find harder.

Good phonics cards pair one sound with one spelling and a short example word. When the front shows a pattern and the back shows the sound, with a word like "ship" or "night," students practice recognition and decoding in the same step.

Spaced repetition adds the review that early reading depends on. Sounds a student misses appear more often, and familiar ones fade to less frequent review, so practice time goes where it is needed most.

Frequently asked questions

What order should phonics sounds be taught in?

Many programs start with consonant sounds and short vowels, then move to digraphs like sh and ch, and later to long vowels and silent e. Follow your school's scope and sequence where one is set.

How often should early readers review phonics flashcards?

Short daily sessions usually work better than one long session each week. Spaced repetition helps by scheduling the sounds a student finds hardest more often.

Can I export my phonics flashcards?

Yes, the Plus plan includes export to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV. The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports.

Is there a free plan to try first?

Yes, the free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and no credit card is needed to start. Students get 40% off with a school email.
