How to use flashcards across physics, maths and biology

Students juggling physics, maths and biology often need a different study habit for each subject. Physics, maths and biology tutor flashcards can cover all three from one set of notes: definitions and units for biology, formulas and worked steps for maths, and laws and their conditions for physics.

  • Use one card per definition, formula, law or process so each card tests a single idea.
  • Put the steps of a method on the back of maths cards, not only the final answer.
  • Add units to physics answers and check them when you review.
  • Review the cards you get wrong more often than the ones you already know.
Example physics, maths and biology flashcards
What is Newton's second law of motion?Net force equals mass times acceleration (F = ma), so a larger net force gives a larger acceleration for the same mass.
What is the derivative of sin(x)?cos(x), which holds when x is measured in radians.
What is the role of the light-dependent reactions in photosynthesis? They use light to split water, releasing oxygen and producing ATP and NADPH for the Calvin cycle.
How do mitosis and meiosis differ?Mitosis makes two genetically identical diploid cells, while meiosis makes four genetically varied haploid gametes.
What is the SI unit of power? The watt (W), equal to one joule per second.

Works with your own material

Upload PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or photos of pages. Images are read with text recognition.

Spaced repetition built in

Cards come back at the right time, so the ones you find hard appear more often than the ones you know.

Cards from what you studied

Flashcards come from your own lecture slides and textbook pages, not from a generic deck.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, slide deck, DOCX file, notes or a photo of a page.

Generate flashcards

DeckOwl turns the content into question and answer cards you can edit.

Review on schedule

Spaced repetition brings back the cards you are about to forget.

Upload your lecture slides, textbook PDFs or photos of handwritten pages, and DeckOwl builds cards from what you actually covered in class. Spaced repetition then schedules reviews so you revisit weak cards before you forget them.

Keep answers short, put one idea on each card, and add the method for maths problems or a labelled process for biology when the subject calls for it.

Frequently asked questions

How many flashcards should I make for a physics or biology unit?

There is no fixed number. Aim for one idea per card, so each definition, formula or process gets its own card, and split long chapters into sections.

How do I study maths with flashcards?

Put the method on the back of the card, such as the steps for solving a quadratic, not just the answer. Try to write the working before you flip the card, and review the ones you miss more often.

Can I export these flashcards to Anki?

Yes, but exports are a paid feature. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, while the free plan lets you study in the browser.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and you don't need a credit card to start. Students can get 40% off with a school email.
