Why build your own PMP test flashcards

Studying for the PMP exam means holding a large body of process, formula and situational knowledge in your head at once. Many candidates find that PMP test flashcards work best when they come from the same source they are studying, so the terms and definitions match what they will see in their course materials.

  • Cards come from your own study guide, slides or notes rather than a generic deck.
  • Earned value, schedule and cost formulas can be turned into separate cards for quick review.
  • Spaced repetition moves the cards you struggle with into more frequent review.
  • The free plan lets you generate and study in the browser, with 3 generations per month.
Example PMP flashcards for exam prep
What is a project charter?A document issued by the sponsor that formally authorizes the project and gives the project manager authority to apply organizational resources. It is created in the initiating process group.
What does earned value (EV) measure? The value of the work actually completed, measured in terms of the approved budget for that work. It is compared with planned value and actual cost to assess performance.
What is the critical path? The longest sequence of dependent activities in a schedule. It sets the shortest possible project duration, and activities on it have zero float.
What does a RACI matrix show?Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed roles for each deliverable or activity. It clarifies who does the work and who signs off on it.
What does a Schedule Performance Index (SPI) of 0.8 mean?Work is being completed at 80 percent of the planned rate, so the project is behind schedule. An SPI above 1 means the project is ahead of schedule.

Built from your files

Upload PDFs, DOCX or PPTX slides, plain notes, or photos of pages, and get cards drawn from your own material.

Spaced repetition

Cards come back at the intervals that help you retain them, so weak areas show up more often than the topics you already know.

Study in the browser

Review on any device with a browser. The free plan includes studying online, and Plus adds exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV.

How it works

Upload your PMP material

Add your study guide PDF, course slides, or typed notes. Photos of pages are read with text recognition.

Generate your flashcards

DeckOwl creates question-and-answer cards from the terms, formulas and processes in your files.

Review on a schedule

Study the cards in spaced repetition sessions and keep working on the ones you miss.

DeckOwl reads your uploaded files and turns key terms, earned value formulas, process inputs and outputs into cards. You can then review them with spaced repetition, which brings back the cards you are most likely to forget. Quizzes with explanations are also available if you want to test yourself in a different format.

Frequently asked questions

Should I memorize the PMP formulas or understand what they measure?

Understand what each one tells you, such as whether a project is ahead or behind schedule or over or under budget. Being able to interpret a result is more useful on exam questions than recalling the formula alone.

How many flashcards should I make for the PMP exam?

There is no fixed number. Focus on the terms, formulas and processes that appear in your own study guide, and add cards for the topics you keep getting wrong.

Can I export my PMP flashcards to Anki?

Yes, but exports are a paid feature. Plus ($99.90/year or $9.99/month) includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export along with unlimited generations.

Can DeckOwl make flashcards from a PMP study guide PDF?

Yes. You can upload PDFs, DOCX or PPTX files, plain notes, or images of pages, and DeckOwl generates flashcards from that content. The free plan includes 3 generations per month.
