Why custom grammar cards beat generic printouts

Generic printouts are fine for a quick drill, but they rarely match your class notes or the examples your teacher used. Printable grammar flashcards work best when they come from the material you are actually studying. Upload a PDF, slide deck, or photo of a page, and DeckOwl writes question-and-answer cards from it, then schedules reviews with spaced repetition.

  • Pronoun case, verb tense, and subject-verb agreement cards built from your own lessons
  • Cards that show a rule in a real sentence, not just a definition
  • Spaced repetition so the rules you miss return more often
  • PDF export for paper copies on the Plus plan
Example grammar flashcards for practice
Who or whom: which one goes after a preposition like to or with?Whom goes after a preposition or as an object, as in 'to whom I spoke.' Test by replacing it with he or him.
What is a dangling modifier?A modifying phrase that attaches to the wrong noun, so the sentence says something unintended. Fix it by naming the actor: 'Walking home, I got caught in the rain.'
When is the subjunctive mood used? For wishes, hypotheticals, and demands, as in 'If I were you' or 'She insisted he leave.'
What is a gerund?A verb form ending in -ing that works as a noun, as in 'Swimming is good exercise.'
Affect or effect: which is usually the verb?Affect is usually the verb meaning to influence, and effect is usually the noun meaning a result.

PDF export on Plus

The Plus plan adds PDF export for printing, along with DOCX, Anki, and CSV exports.

Study or print

Review in the browser, or export to PDF on Plus when you want paper copies.

Grammar rules stick best in small pieces: one rule per card, with a sentence that shows it in use. Ask for separate cards on verb tense, pronoun case, and punctuation, then check the answers against your notes before you rely on them.

Frequently asked questions

How many grammar flashcards should I make for one unit?

Aim for one card per rule or example in the unit, and trim any you already know well. Shorter sets are easier to review every day.

Which grammar topics work best as flashcards?

Rules with a clear right answer work best, such as pronoun case, verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and comma use. Topics that need long explanations are better suited to a quiz or a written review.

Can I print my flashcards?

Printing uses PDF export, which is included with the Plus plan at $39 per year or $7.99 per month. The free plan lets you study flashcards in the browser with three generations a month.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. You can start on the free plan without a credit card, and students get 40% off Plus with a school email.
