Why build your own printable set

Teachers and students often want a stack of printable Spanish vocabulary flashcards to practice away from a screen. A generic sheet from the internet covers common words, but it will not include the verbs and themes from your unit.

  • Use the exact words from your class list so the cards match what you will be tested on.
  • Group vocabulary by theme and print one theme per page to keep sessions short.
  • Put the Spanish word on the front and the English meaning on the back for recall practice.
  • Keep a few example sentences in your notes so each word appears in context.

Built from your material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or a photo of a vocabulary page. Text is read from images, so handwritten-style printed lists work too.

Spaced repetition

Cards you miss come back sooner and easy ones spread out, so your Spanish words stick without re-reading the whole list each night.

PDF export on Plus

Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export. Print your set for paper practice, or load it into Anki if you prefer that app.

How it works

Add your vocabulary

Upload the file or photo that has your Spanish words and their meanings, or paste them in as plain text.

Generate flashcards

DeckOwl creates one card per term. Check the list and remove anything you do not need before you study.

Study or print

Review in the browser on the free plan, or export to PDF on Plus when you want a printed copy.

Start with the list your instructor gave you, or your own notes from class. Smaller sets of about 15 to 25 words, grouped by theme such as food, travel or school, are easier to review and print than one long list.

Once the cards are made, review the Spanish side first so you practice recall. Flip the cards when recognition feels easy, and let spaced repetition bring back the words you keep missing.

Frequently asked questions

How many Spanish vocabulary words should go in one flashcard set?

Smaller sets of about 15 to 25 words, grouped by theme, are easier to learn and review than a long list. Add new sets as your class moves on.

Should the Spanish word go on the front or the back of the card?

Put the Spanish word on the front for recall practice. Reverse the cards once you can recognize the words easily, so you also practice producing the Spanish.

Can I print my flashcards from DeckOwl?

PDF export is part of the Plus plan, which costs $39/year or $7.99/month. The free plan lets you study in the browser but does not include exports.

Can I start from a photo of a vocabulary list?

Yes. Photos of pages are read with text recognition, and PDF, DOCX and PPTX files also work. No credit card is needed to start.
