Why build your own common words set

Most printable lists of Spanish common words flashcards cover the same few hundred entries, whether or not your class uses them. A card set made from your own textbook chapter or lecture slides focuses on the verbs, nouns and phrases you will actually be tested on.

  • Start with high-frequency verbs such as ser, estar, tener, ir and hacer, since they appear in almost every sentence.
  • Add the irregular conjugations to the back of each card so you practice forms, not just the infinitive.
  • Review new words daily in short sessions rather than cramming a full list the night before a quiz.
  • Mix in your own examples and phrases so the words connect to conversations you will actually have.

Built from your material

Upload a PDF, slide deck, typed notes or a photo of a handout. The words and phrases come from what your teacher actually covers.

Spaced repetition

Cards you struggle with return more often, and easy ones are spaced further apart, so common verbs and vocabulary stay in memory.

Study in the browser

Start free with no credit card and review on any device. Paid plans add export to Anki, CSV, PDF and DOCX.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or image of the page with the vocabulary list.

Generate flashcards

DeckOwl creates term-and-meaning cards from the material. Check them and remove anything you do not need.

Review on a schedule

Study in short sessions. Spaced repetition brings back the words you miss until they are automatic.

Common words are also easier to learn in context. When a card comes from a sentence your teacher wrote, you remember the meaning and the form, such as the irregular present tense of tener or ir, instead of a bare translation.

If you already have a vocabulary list, upload it and let DeckOwl turn it into cards with spaced repetition. You can keep adding new units as the course moves on.

Frequently asked questions

Which Spanish common words should I learn first?

How many common Spanish words do I need for everyday conversation?

There is no fixed number, but a few hundred high-frequency words cover a large share of basic speech. Focus on mastering a smaller set well before adding more.

Is there a free plan for making Spanish flashcards?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser. It does not include exports.

Can I export my Spanish flashcards to Anki or CSV?

Yes, but exports are a paid feature. The Plus plan at $99.90 per year or $9.99 per month includes Anki, CSV, PDF and DOCX export, and students get 40% off with a school email.
