Why a mind map helps with school topics

Chapter notes pile up fast in middle and high school, and a mind map for school students turns that pile into one page of linked ideas. Instead of rereading five pages of biology, you see how the main topic splits into its parts, causes and examples.

  • Shows how the main idea connects to smaller facts
  • Makes it easier to check what you have not covered yet
  • Works with PDFs, slides, typed notes and photos of pages
  • Can be edited so the map matches what your teacher taught

Built from your own material

Upload PDFs, DOCX files, PPTX slides, plain text or a photo of a page. The map follows your teacher's material, not a generic topic list.

Editable branches

Rename a branch, add a missing idea or delete a detail that does not belong. The map is yours to adjust before you study it.

Explore the whole topic

See the main topic at the center and move outward through causes, parts and examples. It helps when a unit has too many separate facts to hold in your head.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, Word file, slide deck, text notes or a photo of a textbook page.

Generate the map

DeckOwl reads the material and arranges the main ideas as branches with supporting points underneath.

Edit and study

Change anything that looks wrong, then review the branches, or turn the same material into flashcards or a quiz.

Mind maps also make it easier to spot gaps. If a branch has only one sub-point, you know to go back to the reading and fill it in before the test. Students can keep one map per unit and add to it as the class moves forward.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a mind map from class notes?

Write the unit topic in the center, then add three to six major ideas as first-level branches. Place the supporting facts under each branch and keep labels short enough to recall quickly.

How many branches should a school mind map have?

Most school topics work well with four to seven main branches, each holding two to four sub-points. If a map grows past that, split it into two smaller maps by subtopic.

Can I edit the mind map after it is generated?

Yes. The generated map is editable, so you can change labels and add your own points after it is created.

Can I export a mind map?

Exporting is a paid feature. The free plan lets you study in the browser, and Plus includes PDF and DOCX export.
