Why a generic template falls short for class notes

A ready-made mind map template works only until your notes stop matching its boxes.

  • Branches match your course's actual terms
  • Works from PDF, DOCX, PPTX, notes, and photos
  • Explore any branch without scrolling a full page
  • Free to start with 3 generations per month

Starts from your material

The map is built from your own PDF, DOCX, PPTX, notes, or photographed pages, so the branches match your course.

Explore branch by branch

Open each main branch to see its sub-points, so you can focus on one part of the topic at a time.

Study it, not just look at it

Turn the same material into flashcards with spaced repetition or a quiz with explanations.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file, or a photo of your page.

Generate the mind map

DeckOwl reads the text and arranges the main ideas into branches and sub-points.

Explore and export

Open branches to review them, then export on Plus if you need a file to share or print.

A template gives you empty boxes, and filling them is the hard part. Generating the map from your own lecture slides or reading keeps each branch tied to what your exam will cover.

Once the map exists, you can explore any branch on its own and turn the same material into flashcards or a quiz when you are ready to test yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How many branches should a mind map have for a lecture?

Most lectures work well with 4 to 7 main branches, each holding 2 to 4 sub-points. If a branch has more than that, split it into two narrower branches.

How do I study a mind map after I make it?

Redraw it from memory, then compare it with the original to find the branches you missed. Quiz yourself on each branch separately until you can name its sub-points without looking.

Can I export my mind map to Word or a PDF?

DOCX and PDF export are included on the Plus plan. The free plan lets you study in the browser but does not include exports.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and you do not need a credit card to start.
