Practice with AI quiz answers and explanations from your notes
DeckOwl writes multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer practice questions from your PDFs, slides or notes, with an explanation for every answer. It works on material you provide, not on a live graded quiz.
Why practicing from your own notes beats looking up answers
Students who look up AI quiz answers for a graded quiz often end up with a score they cannot repeat on the final. DeckOwl takes your own lecture notes or slides and writes practice questions with the correct answer and a reason for it, so the material sticks.
- Questions are written from the pages you provide, not from a generic question bank.
- Every answer includes an explanation you can check against your notes.
- Photos of printed pages are read with text recognition.
- Plus exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV; Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
Explanations for every answer
Each question includes the correct answer and a short reason, so you learn why the other options are wrong.
Three question types
Multiple choice, true/false and short answer, generated from PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, text or photos of pages.
Spaced repetition on Plus
Plus adds spaced repetition and flashcards so the material comes back before you forget it.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text notes or a photo of a printed page.
Choose question types
Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer questions for the topic you are studying.
Study and retry misses
Answer in the browser, read each explanation and retry the questions you missed.
Each question is built from the pages you supply, so a wrong answer points you back to the part of the source it came from. Free accounts get 3 generations a month and can study in the browser, and Plus adds unlimited generations and spaced repetition.

Frequently asked questions
How many practice questions should I do before a quiz?
Working through a full set twice, spaced over several days, usually works better than one long cram session. Retry the questions you missed and read each explanation before moving on.
How do I know if I actually understand a topic?
Try to answer without looking at your notes, then explain why each wrong option is wrong. If you can do that on questions you have not seen before, you are in good shape.
Can I export my quiz to Canvas or Moodle?
Moodle XML and QTI 2.1 export are included in Pro at $14.99 per month, and PDF and DOCX export are on Plus. DeckOwl does not connect to Canvas directly.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start.
