Why generate quizzes from your own material

Anyone who searches for an API usually wants one thing: questions built from the material they actually need to learn. A AI quiz generator works best when it reads your lecture slides or chapter notes and writes questions that match them.

  • Generate from PDFs, slides, notes or page photos
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions with explanations
  • Free plan includes 3 generations per month
  • Students get 40% off with a school email
Example REST API study questions
What does the HTTP GET method do in a REST API?It requests a resource from the server without changing it. Reads should be safe to repeat, so they must not alter data.
Which HTTP status code means 'Not Found'?404. The server cannot find a resource at the requested URL.
Is a POST request idempotent? No. Repeating a POST can create duplicate resources, so it is not idempotent.
What does a 401 Unauthorized response indicate? The request lacks valid authentication credentials. The server cannot verify who is making the request.
What does a JSON response body typically contain? The requested data or error details, encoded as JSON. Clients parse it, so the structure must be consistent.

Three question formats

Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions, so you can test recognition and recall on the same material.

Explanations for every answer

Each question comes with a short explanation of why the correct answer is right, which helps when you miss one.

Your own material

Start from the files you already have, including photos of pages that are read with text recognition.

How it works

Upload your source

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or an image of a page.

Choose a question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions and generate the quiz.

Practice and review

Answer in the browser, read the explanations, and export to PDF or DOCX on a paid plan.

If you are studying REST API concepts, paste in your course notes or upload the slides from class. DeckOwl reads the file, writes questions in the format you choose, and attaches an explanation to each answer so you can see the reasoning.

Free accounts get 3 generations per month and can study in the browser. Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month removes the limit and adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export.

Frequently asked questions

Does DeckOwl offer an API for developers?

The plans described here cover uploading files and generating quizzes in the web app, and API access is not one of them. You can create quizzes from your own material directly in the browser.

What is the difference between PUT and PATCH in a REST API?

PUT replaces the whole resource with the data you send, while PATCH changes only the fields you include. Use PATCH when you want to update part of a record without resending all of it.

How many quiz questions should I make to study REST API concepts?

Start with 10 to 15 questions per chapter so you cover methods, status codes and authentication. Review the ones you miss and generate a new set for the weak areas.

Are QTI or Moodle XML exports included in the free plan?

No. The free plan has no exports, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are part of the Pro plan at $14.99 per month.
