Turn a web article into an AI quiz with explanations
DeckOwl cannot open a URL directly, so copy the article text or save the page as a PDF, upload it, and get a practice quiz where every answer includes an explanation.
Making a quiz from a web article
Web pages cannot be uploaded by URL, so making an AI-made quiz from a link takes one extra step. Copy the article text into a .txt file or save the page as a PDF, then upload it to DeckOwl. Photos of printed pages also work, since images are read with text recognition.
- Copy the article text or save the page as a PDF before uploading.
- Use the explanations to find the idea behind each missed question.
- Keep sections of a long article in separate uploads for sharper questions.
- Export to Anki, CSV, PDF or DOCX on paid plans to study outside the browser.
Multiple question types
Get multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions from the same article.
Explanations for every answer
Each question explains why the correct answer is right, so wrong answers still teach you something.
Upload from many sources
Works with PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text and photos of printed pages read with text recognition.
How it works
Copy the article text
Select the article text and paste it into a plain text file, or save the page as a PDF.
Upload and generate
Upload the file to DeckOwl and generate your quiz from the material.
Answer and review
Take the quiz in your browser, then read the explanations for every question you missed.
The quiz covers multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions, and each one includes an explanation so wrong answers teach something. Free accounts get 3 generations per month and can study in the browser, but exports are not included. Plus costs $39/year or $7.99/month and adds unlimited generations plus PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export. Pro costs $14.99/month and adds a stronger AI model, bulk upload, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.
Read the source article before studying, then check each generated question against it. Questions drawn from one clear section tend to be sharper than ones from a long, mixed page, so split long articles into sections and generate a quiz for each.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get a quiz from a web article?
Copy the article text into a plain text file or save the page as a PDF, then upload it to DeckOwl. Photos of a printed page also work because text recognition reads them.
How many questions should a reading quiz have?
Start with 8 to 10 questions per article so you can cover the main ideas without fatigue. Mix multiple-choice with a few short answer questions to test recall, not only recognition.
Should I quiz myself right after reading, or wait?
Do a short quiz right after reading to check understanding, then retest a day or two later, since spacing the review helps memory last. Retest the questions you missed first.
Can I export a link-based quiz to Moodle?
Yes, but Moodle XML export is on the Pro plan at $14.99/month, which also includes QTI 2.1. Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month covers PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV exports.
