Why generic grammar drills fall short

Most grammar practice uses sentences that have nothing to do with what you are studying, so a grammar quiz app that builds questions from your own lessons keeps the focus on the rules your class is covering.

  • Generate multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions from your own grammar notes
  • Read an explanation for every answer, right or wrong
  • Study in the browser on the Free plan with 3 generations per month
  • Export to PDF, DOCX, Anki or CSV on Plus, or to QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on Pro
Example grammar quiz questions with answers
Choose the correct verb: 'The list of tasks ___ long.' (is / are)is. The subject is 'list', a singular noun, so the verb agrees with it rather than with 'tasks'.
True or false: a comma usually comes before 'but' when it joins two independent clauses.True. A comma commonly precedes a coordinating conjunction like 'but' that joins two complete sentences.
Who or whom: '___ did you invite?'Whom. It is the object of the verb 'invite', so the objective form applies in formal writing.
Choose the correct verb: 'Neither the manager nor the employees ___ informed.' (was / were)were. With neither...nor, the verb agrees with the subject closer to it, here 'employees'.
Identify the error: 'Their going to the library after class.'They're going. 'Their' is a possessive pronoun, but the sentence needs the contraction of 'they are'.

Questions from your material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file or a photo of a page. The questions follow the grammar rules your teacher actually covered.

Three question types

Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions let you practice recognizing errors and writing corrections yourself.

Explanations for every answer

Each question includes a short explanation, so a wrong answer becomes a lesson about the rule, not just a missed point.

How it works

Upload your grammar material

Add a PDF, slide deck, Word file or photo of a worksheet. No credit card is needed to start.

Choose a question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions and generate a quiz from the sections you want to review.

Practice and review explanations

Answer the quiz in your browser, read the explanation for each item, and return to the rules you missed.

Quizzes work best when they test one rule at a time, such as subject-verb agreement or comma use after introductory phrases, and when each wrong answer is explained. DeckOwl generates those explanations from your material.

If you are a teacher, the Pro plan exports questions as QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML, and the Plus plan exports PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV files for printed or offline practice.

Frequently asked questions

Which grammar topics do students usually find hardest?

Many students struggle with comma placement, pronoun reference and choosing between who and whom. These are good starting points for a focused quiz.

How should I structure grammar practice?

A short set focused on one rule, such as subject-verb agreement, is more useful than a long mixed quiz. Review the explanations for the questions you missed before moving on.

Can I export grammar quizzes to Moodle?

Yes, Moodle XML and QTI 2.1 exports are included in the Pro plan at $14.99 per month. Teachers can bring the questions into a Moodle course from there.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, but exports require a paid plan.
