Converting a Canvas quiz to Quizlet, step by step

A Canvas quiz does not have to stay locked inside Canvas. If you want to convert a Canvas quiz to Quizlet, start with the material the quiz was built from, because questions written from your own notes match what you will be tested on.

  • Start from your own lecture notes or slides so the questions match the course.
  • Check every explanation before you export, especially for definitions and calculations.
  • Use CSV export on Plus to move cards into Quizlet or another flashcard app.
  • Use QTI 2.1 export on Pro if you need the questions to import into Canvas.
Example intro biology quiz questions
Which organelle produces most of a cell's ATP?Mitochondria. Oxidative phosphorylation along the inner membrane generates most of the cell's ATP.
True or false: DNA replication is semiconservative.True. Each new double helix keeps one original strand and one newly synthesized strand.
What does the Calvin cycle use ATP and NADPH to do?Fix carbon dioxide into sugar. Those carriers supply the energy and electrons needed to build G3P.
Why does a cell lose water when placed in concentrated salt water? The surrounding solution has lower water potential, so water moves out of the cell by osmosis to balance it.
Which phase of mitosis lines chromosomes up at the cell's center?Metaphase. Spindle fibers attach to kinetochores and align the chromosomes along the metaphase plate.

Built from your own material

Start from the PDF, slides, DOCX or notes your quiz was based on. Photos of pages are read with text recognition.

Explanations on every answer

Each question includes an explanation, so the set teaches the reason behind the answer, not just the letter.

Export for flashcards or your LMS

Download a CSV for flashcard apps, or a QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML file for course import on the Pro plan.

How it works

Upload your source

Add the PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text or photos that your Canvas quiz covers.

Choose question types

Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer, and review the generated questions and explanations.

Export the set

Export CSV to move the questions into Quizlet or another flashcard app, or QTI for Canvas import.

Upload the lecture slides or notes, then generate questions in the formats you need. Review each explanation, remove anything that is off, and export. CSV on the Plus plan gives you a file for Quizlet or another flashcard app, and QTI 2.1 on the Pro plan supports importing questions back into Canvas.

Frequently asked questions

How many practice questions should I write for an intro biology quiz?

Aim for enough questions to cover each lecture objective at least twice, often 15 to 25 per unit. Mix multiple choice with some short-answer questions so you practice recall, not only recognition.

What is the fastest way to study quiz questions from a course?

Turn the questions into flashcards and retake them until you can explain each answer in your own words. Spacing reviews over several days works better than one long cramming session.

Can I export to Canvas on the free plan?

The free plan lets you study in the browser with 3 generations per month, but exports are paid features. QTI 2.1 export for Canvas import is included in the Pro plan.

Is there a discount for students?

Yes, students with a school email get 40% off, and you can start without a credit card.
