How the eye exam practice generator works

Preparing for an optometry, ophthalmic assistant or nursing eye unit exam means memorizing a lot of anatomy, refraction terms and eye conditions, and a practical eye exam generator works best when it starts from your own lecture slides.

  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions with explanations
  • Works from PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain notes and photos of pages
  • Study in the browser on the free plan, with exports on paid plans
  • Students get 40% off with a school email
Example eye exam practice questions
Which part of the eye does most of the refraction? The cornea. It supplies about two-thirds of the eye's focusing power, so its curvature has the greatest effect on refraction.
Which test measures intraocular pressure?Tonometry. Elevated pressure is a major risk factor for glaucoma, which is why it is checked during routine eye exams.
What does a Snellen chart measure?Visual acuity. It tests how well a person resolves letters at a standard distance, usually 20 feet (6 meters).
Which nerve carries the light signal from the retina to the brain? The optic nerve (cranial nerve II). The oculomotor nerve controls pupil constriction, so it is not part of the sensory pathway.
What is the difference between myopia and hyperopia?Myopia is nearsightedness, where light focuses in front of the retina. Hyperopia is farsightedness, where light focuses behind the retina.

Built from your material

Upload lecture slides, PDFs or notes and the questions come from what you actually studied.

Explanations on every answer

Each question includes a short explanation, so a missed item teaches you the reason behind the correct answer.

Exports for your course

Save to PDF or DOCX on Plus. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are available on Pro.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page.

Choose the question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions.

Study and review

Answer in the browser, read the explanations and retry the questions you missed.

DeckOwl reads your upload and writes multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions, each with an explanation that points back to why the answer is right. Missed questions are the most useful part of practice, so the explanations matter as much as the score.

DeckOwl does not make printable eye charts or clinical vision tests. It builds study practice from the material you give it, so the questions match your course rather than a generic template.

Frequently asked questions

How many practice questions should I make for an eye exam?

Start with one lecture or chapter and make enough questions to cover each major structure and condition, such as the lens, retina and glaucoma. Review the questions you missed before moving on.

What topics do eye exam questions usually cover?

Common topics include ocular anatomy, refraction and visual acuity, intraocular pressure and glaucoma, and conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Your course outline or exam blueprint shows which topics are weighted most.

Can I export the questions to Moodle or QTI?

Yes, QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are part of the Pro plan. PDF and DOCX export are included with Plus, and the free plan has study in the browser with no exports.

Does DeckOwl make printable vision charts?

No. DeckOwl builds study questions from material you upload, so it cannot create clinical vision tests or printable eye charts. The free plan includes 3 generations per month.
