How to build draw practice from your own material

A gimkit draw style review works best when the questions come from the material you are actually studying. DeckOwl does not host a Gimkit game, but it can turn your own drawing notes into quiz questions you can practice anywhere you have a browser.

  • Questions are generated from your own uploaded material, not a generic set.
  • Each question includes an explanation so wrong answers teach you something.
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions cover recall and application.
  • Spaced repetition brings back the terms you find hardest.
Example drawing fundamentals flashcards
Contour lineA line that traces the outer edge of a form or the edges of its overlapping parts, without shading.
ForeshorteningDrawing an object so it appears shorter along the line of sight, which creates a sense of depth.
ChiaroscuroThe use of strong contrast between light and dark to model the volume of a form.
Negative spaceThe empty area around and between the shapes of a subject, which helps define those shapes.
Cross-contour lineA line that follows the curve of a form across its surface, showing how the form turns in space.

Questions from your material

Upload PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text or photos of pages, and get questions based on what your course actually covers.

Explanations for every answer

Each multiple-choice, true/false or open question comes with an explanation so you learn why an answer is right.

Spaced repetition for review

Flashcards from the same material use spaced repetition, so terms you miss come back more often until they stick.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, slides, a document or a photo of your class handout. Text recognition reads images as well.

Choose a question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, then generate a set from your own material.

Practice in the browser

Work through the questions and read the explanations. Free accounts study in the browser at no cost to start.

Start with the vocabulary and techniques your instructor covered, such as contour lines, foreshortening and value. Generate a set, check the explanations for any question you missed, and repeat the set a few days later to keep the terms in memory.

Students who want the game format can use the questions as a warm-up before class or a review before a critique. Paid plans add exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV for offline study.

Frequently asked questions

How do I study drawing terms like foreshortening?

Learn the definition first, then sketch a simple object such as a cylinder pointing toward you and compare it to the definition. Quiz yourself on the term a few days later to see if you can still explain it.

What should a drawing study set include?

Include core vocabulary such as contour line, value and negative space, plus the techniques your instructor demonstrated. Add a few open questions asking you to explain when to use each technique.

Can I export my questions to Moodle?

Moodle XML export is included on the Pro plan, which also includes QTI 2.1 export and a stronger AI model. Plus and Pro both include exports, while the free plan is limited to studying in the browser.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, the free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study. Exports require a paid plan, and students get 40% off with a school email.
