How point values work in a Google Form quiz

Setting Google Form quiz points starts with one toggle. Open Settings, switch on Make this a quiz, and then give each question its own point value in the answer key. The total score is the sum of those values, so the points you choose shape the final grade.

  • Turn on Make this a quiz in Settings before you add answer keys.
  • Enter a point value for each question in its answer key section.
  • Choose when respondents see grades under the release settings.
  • Submit a test response to confirm the total matches your plan.

Where do you set the point value for one question in a Google Form quiz?In that question's answer key area, in the Points field.
Can Google Forms autograde a question for partial credit?Autograding awards the full value for a matching answer and nothing otherwise, so partial credit needs manual grading.

How is the total score of a Google Form quiz calculated? It is the sum of the point values of all graded questions, so 10 questions at 2 points each total 20.

Quizzes from your own material

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain notes or photos of pages. Each quiz is built from the content you supplied.

Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions

Choose the question types you need. Every question comes with an explanation so you can check why the answer is right.

Export on paid plans

Plus exports PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning management systems.

How it works

Upload your notes or slides

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of a page. Text in images is read with text recognition.

Generate the quiz

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions. Review the answer key and explanations before you use them.

Study it or export it

Practice in the browser on the free plan. Export to PDF, DOCX or other formats on a paid plan.

Most mistakes happen when the answer key is incomplete. A question without a correct answer cannot be autograded, and a value left at the default may not match the weight you intended. Before you publish, check every question, then test the form by submitting a sample response and confirming the score.

If you need questions to begin with, DeckOwl can write a set from your own notes. Review each answer and explanation, then enter the questions you keep into your form with the points you want.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set points for each question in a Google Form quiz?

Turn on Make this a quiz in Settings, then open the answer key for each question and enter its point value. The total score updates automatically as you change the values.

How should I prepare quiz questions before I enter them in Google Forms?

Write each question with one correct answer and a short explanation, then check that the set covers your notes evenly. A draft in a document makes the answer key faster to build.

Can DeckOwl export quizzes directly to Google Forms?

No. Plus exports PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV files, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML. You copy the questions into Google Forms yourself.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, but exports require a paid plan. No credit card is needed to start.
