Need a quiz timer app? Turn your notes into practice quizzes
DeckOwl does not add a countdown to Google Forms and there is nothing to install. It reads your own material and writes multiple-choice, true/false and open questions with explanations that you study right in the browser.
Why a timer app is not the same as a quiz generator
Many students want a countdown when they move practice questions into Google Forms, which often leads to a search for a quiz timer app. DeckOwl is a different kind of tool: a browser-based AI study tool that writes the questions for you from your own material, with explanations attached.
- Questions are generated from the PDFs, slides, or notes you upload.
- Multiple-choice, true/false, and open questions each include an explanation.
- Studying happens in the browser on the free plan.
- Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki, CSV, QTI 2.1, and Moodle XML are paid features.
Quizzes from your own material
Upload a PDF, slides, DOCX, plain notes, or a photo of a page, and get questions written from that content.
Explanations for every answer
Each question comes with an explanation, so a wrong answer teaches you why the right one is correct.
Runs in your browser
No app download is needed. The free plan lets you study in the browser with 3 generations per month.
How it works
Upload your notes
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file, or image of your pages.
Pick a question type
Choose multiple-choice, true/false, or open questions for the quiz.
Practice and review misses
Answer the questions, read the explanations, and retake the ones you missed.
The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, with no exports. Plus costs $39 per year or $7.99 per month and adds unlimited generations, PDF and DOCX export, Anki and CSV export, and spaced repetition. Pro costs $14.99 per month and adds a stronger AI model, bulk upload, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.
No credit card is needed to start, and students get 40% off with a school email.

Frequently asked questions
How do I time myself while practicing a quiz?

Review missed questions the same day, then again a few days later. Keep retesting until you can answer them correctly without hesitating.
Can DeckOwl export my quiz to Google Forms?
DeckOwl does not export directly to Google Forms. PDF and DOCX export are on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are on Pro.
