Turn your MCAT notes into practice tests with explanations

DeckOwl does not produce official MCAT scaled scores. It builds practice quizzes from your own material, so you can see which concepts you miss and why.

Why a raw number is not enough on MCAT practice

A practice exam only helps if you can see which sections and topics cost you points, and a single total does not show that. MCAT practice test scoring works best when you tie each missed question to the concept behind it and review that concept again.

  • Track missed questions by section rather than by total score.
  • Write one sentence on why each wrong answer was wrong before checking the explanation.
  • Retake the topics you missed in a shorter quiz a few days later.
  • Use an official full-length exam, not a generated quiz, to estimate your actual scaled score.
Example MCAT scoring facts to test yourself on
How many sections does the MCAT have, and what is the total score range?Four sections, with a total from 472 to 528 · Each section is scored from 118 to 132, and the four section scores add up to the total.
Does the MCAT deduct points for wrong answers? No, there is no penalty for guessing · Only correct answers add to the raw score, so answer every question even when unsure.
Is there a fixed table that converts raw scores to scaled scores? No, the conversion uses equating · Scaled scores are adjusted for each exam's difficulty, so the same raw score can map to different scaled scores on different test dates.
What does the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section cover?General chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry-linked physics and related concepts · It tests how chemical and physical principles apply to biological systems.
What does the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section cover?Psychology, sociology and behavioral biology · It tests how biological, psychological and social factors shape behavior and health.

Quizzes from your notes

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, plain text or photos of pages and get multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions.

An explanation for every answer

Each question comes with an explanation, so a missed item teaches you the concept behind it.

Exports for your own tests

Plus exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, slide deck, DOCX file, notes or a photo of a page from your MCAT prep.

Generate a practice set

Choose multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions built from your own content.

Review the explanations

Check each answer and its explanation, then move missed topics into spaced repetition on a paid plan.

The official MCAT converts raw results into scaled section scores through equating, so no public table lets you predict an exact total from a practice set. DeckOwl is useful for the part you control: turning your own review notes into quizzes you can retake until the weak topics stop appearing.

Frequently asked questions

How is the MCAT total score calculated?

The total is the sum of four section scores, each scaled from 118 to 132, giving a total from 472 to 528. Raw results are converted to scaled scores through equating, so the conversion can shift from exam to exam.

Does DeckOwl calculate my scaled MCAT score?

No. DeckOwl generates quizzes from your own material with explanations, but it does not convert results to official MCAT scaled scores.

Which export formats are included in the paid plans?

Plus costs $99.90/year or $9.99/month and includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export. Pro costs $14.99/month and adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML, while the free plan allows 3 generations per month with no exports.

How many practice questions should I do for each MCAT section?

There is no official number, but timed sets close to real section length build stamina better than scattered questions. Review every wrong answer and note why you missed it before starting another set.
