How to build MCAT practice test sections that match your weak areas

The four MCAT exam sections test very different skills, so the most useful MCAT practice test sections are the ones built from your own review notes and the questions you keep missing. A chemistry chapter and a sociology reading need different drills, and mixing them into one generic set makes it harder to see where your gaps are.

  • Keep each practice set tied to one exam section until your scores in that section level out.
  • Re-run a set on the topics you missed, using fresh questions from the same notes.
  • Use true/false questions for quick checks on definitions and pathway steps.
  • Save full-length timed sets for the end of your prep, after section-level work is stable.
Example MCAT section practice questions
Which MCAT section includes the passage-based Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills questions?Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS). It tests reading and reasoning from humanities and social science passages without requiring outside science content.
Which MCAT section covers general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics as they apply to biological systems?Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. It connects chemical and physical principles to how living systems work.
Which MCAT section tests cell biology, biochemistry and genetics?Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. It covers the molecular and cellular basis of life, including metabolic pathways.
Which MCAT section covers how biological, psychological and sociocultural factors shape behavior?Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. It tests how the mind, society and biology interact in behavior and health.
True or false: CARS questions require you to memorize outside biology facts.False. CARS answers come from the passage itself, so the skill is reading and reasoning rather than recalling science content.

Questions by section

Generate sets for Chemical and Physical Foundations, CARS, Biological and Biochemical Foundations, or Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations.

Explanations for every answer

Each question includes a clear reason for the correct choice, so you can see which concept you missed.

Spaced review

Turn the same material into flashcards and review weak topics on a schedule instead of rereading them.

How it works

Upload your material

Add PDFs, DOCX files, PowerPoint slides, plain text notes or photos of pages.

Choose the question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions for the section you are studying.

Practice and review

Answer the questions, read the explanations, and repeat the topics you got wrong.

Start by uploading the material for one section at a time. For the science sections, generate multiple-choice questions and read every explanation, since the reasoning matters more than the letter you picked. For CARS, use passage-based questions and check which sentence in the text supports the correct answer.

Frequently asked questions

Which MCAT section should I practice first?

Start with the section where your practice scores are lowest, but keep CARS in rotation because its skills differ from content review. Work through each section separately before mixing them into timed sets.

How do I study CARS when it has no science content?

Practice reading unfamiliar passages and write a one-line summary of the author's main claim before checking answers. Then review each explanation to see which part of the passage supported the correct choice.

Does DeckOwl include ready-made MCAT practice tests?

No. It generates questions from the material you upload, such as your own notes or slides, so the questions match what you are studying. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and needs no credit card to start.

Can I export MCAT questions to PDF or Anki?

Exports are paid features. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export, while the free plan lets you study in the browser.
