How to build an unscored MCAT practice test

Many MCAT candidates want an unscored MCAT practice test they can take without the stress of a score, but the official full-length exams come from the AAMC, not from third-party tools.

  • Generate sets from the content areas you are weakest in, not only the ones you already know.
  • Sort each missed question by cause, such as a content gap, a misread passage or poor timing.
  • Retest missed topics a few days later to check whether the explanation stuck.
  • Keep a running list of concepts you keep getting wrong and build your next set around them.
Example MCAT biology and biochemistry practice questions
Which organelle is the primary site of oxidative phosphorylation in eukaryotic cells?Mitochondria (inner membrane). The electron transport chain and ATP synthase are located there, so the process depends on that membrane.
In competitive inhibition, how does adding more substrate affect Vmax?Vmax is unchanged, while Km increases. Extra substrate outcompetes the inhibitor, so the enzyme can still reach the same maximum rate.
True or false: hydrogen bonds are stronger than covalent bonds.False. Covalent bonds are much stronger, while hydrogen bonds are weaker interactions that matter for protein folding and water's properties.
Which brain structure is most associated with coordinating voluntary movement and balance? The cerebellum. It integrates sensory and motor signals to fine-tune movement and posture.
What does the Krebs cycle produce that feeds the electron transport chain?NADH and FADH2, along with GTP. The cycle oxidizes acetyl-CoA to CO2 while generating these electron carriers.

Questions from your material

Upload course slides, chapter PDFs or typed notes and get multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions drawn from that content.

Explanations for every answer

Each question includes an explanation, so a missed item becomes a short lesson instead of just a wrong mark.

Study without a score

Work through a set at your own pace, review the reasoning, and retest weak topics without the pressure of a graded exam.

How it works

Upload your study material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of your pages. Photos are read with text recognition.

Choose a question type and length

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer, then generate a set covering the topics you want to drill.

Take the set and review

Answer the questions, read each explanation, and revisit the topics you missed before the next session.

DeckOwl does not supply ready-made MCAT exams. What it does is turn material you already have, such as your course slides, review chapters you own or your own notes, into custom practice questions with explanations you can study from.

Start with a short timed set from one content area, then mix topics as your stamina builds. Reviewing each explanation matters as much as the score itself.

Frequently asked questions

How many practice questions should I do before a full MCAT section?

There is no fixed number that fits everyone. Many students start with short timed sets from one content area and build toward longer mixed sets as their stamina and accuracy improve.

How should I review after an unscored practice test?

Sort each missed question by its cause, such as a content gap, a misread question or running out of time. Then reread the explanation and retest those topics a few days later.

Can I export practice questions to Anki or PDF?

Exports are paid features. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML. The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports.

Is there a free plan to try it first?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and browser study, and no credit card is needed to start. Students get 40% off with a school email.
