Why build your own NCLEX GI question set

Gastrointestinal content shows up across many NCLEX questions, from GI bleeding and bowel obstruction to tube feeding and liver disease, so NCLEX GI practice questions are most useful when they match the topics you are studying right now.

  • Upload one unit at a time so each set targets a single GI topic.
  • Mix multiple-choice and true/false questions to practice quick recall and clinical judgment.
  • Redo missed questions after a day or two rather than immediately.
  • Write a one-line summary of each explanation in your own words.
Example NCLEX GI practice questions
A client receiving continuous nasogastric suction has large volumes of gastric drainage. Which lab result should the nurse report first?Hypokalemia with metabolic alkalosis. Gastric fluid contains potassium and hydrochloric acid, so losing it through suction depletes both.
A client with cirrhosis has confusion and asterixis. What does the nurse suspect?Hepatic encephalopathy. A damaged liver clears ammonia poorly, and the ammonia buildup affects brain function.
A client with GERD eats a meal. What position helps reduce reflux after eating?Upright, for at least two to three hours after meals. Gravity helps keep stomach contents from flowing back into the esophagus.
A client with acute pancreatitis develops bruising around the umbilicus. What does this finding suggest?Cullen sign, which can indicate retroperitoneal bleeding. Blood from the pancreas can track through tissue and appear at the skin surface.
A client with active C. difficile diarrhea needs infection control. Which hand hygiene method should the nurse use?Soap and water. Alcohol-based hand rubs do not reliably kill C. difficile spores.

Questions from your own material

Upload your GI lecture slides, textbook chapters or notes and the questions stay tied to what your course actually covered.

Explanations for every answer

Each multiple-choice, true/false and short answer question comes with a short explanation, so you learn why the wrong options are wrong.

Study in the browser

Work through a set of questions on any device without installing anything. The free plan covers three generations a month.

How it works

Upload your GI material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file or a photo of your pages. Photos are read with text recognition.

Choose the question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer, or mix them in one set.

Answer, review and repeat

Check each explanation, then revisit the questions you missed until the GI topics feel routine.

Printable question banks are easy to find, but a set generated from your own lectures and readings tests the exact material your instructor emphasized. You can upload each unit as it is covered and build a set around it.

Explanations matter as much as the answer key. When a question is wrong, the reason it is wrong is usually the concept to review next, so read each explanation before moving on.

Frequently asked questions

How many practice questions should I do for NCLEX GI content?

There is no fixed number that works for everyone. Working through a focused set until you can explain each answer is more useful than a large random batch.

Which GI topics should I prioritize for the NCLEX?

Common high-yield areas include GI bleeding, bowel obstruction, pancreatitis, hepatic encephalopathy and tube feeding complications. Check your course outline and the current NCSBN test plan for the content areas that apply to you.

Is DeckOwl free to use?

The free plan includes three generations a month and studying in the browser, but it does not include exports. Plus is $99.90 a year or $9.99 a month and includes unlimited generations and exports, and students get 40% off with a school email.

Can I export the questions I generate?

PDF and DOCX export are included in Plus. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are included in Pro, which is $14.99 a month.
