Three question types

Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions are generated from the material you upload, so the quiz follows your course, not a generic textbook.

Explanations on every answer

Each question includes a short explanation of why the correct answer is right, which turns a wrong answer into a useful study moment.

Works with your files

Upload PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text or photos of pages. Images are read with text recognition, so a scanned handout works too.

How it works

Upload your PDF or notes

Add a PDF, slide deck, Word file or photo of a page. Paste plain text if that is easier.

Choose question types

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, then generate the quiz from your own material.

Study and review

Take the quiz in your browser, read the explanations for missed questions, and export to PDF, DOCX, QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML if your plan includes it.

If your class uses Google tools, you can still work from the same source. Generated quizzes are saved in DeckOwl, and PDF and DOCX exports are available on the Plus plan. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML exports are on the Pro plan, which is useful for instructors who run quizzes in a learning management system.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should a quiz from one PDF have?

Most chapters work well with 10 to 20 questions, enough to cover the main ideas without repeating the same fact. Start with a shorter set and generate another one after you review the explanations.

What should I do after I finish a practice quiz?

Go back to every missed question and read the explanation, then rewrite the correct idea in your own words. Retake the questions you missed a day or two later to check whether the answer stuck.

Can I export a quiz to Google Forms?

DeckOwl does not list a Google Forms export. Exports are PDF and DOCX on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on Pro, so check the file format your tool accepts before you upload.

Is there a free way to try it?

Yes. The Free plan includes 3 generations per month and lets you study the quiz in your browser, but exports are part of the paid plans.
