Building a picture round from your own material

Good pub quiz images usually start with material you already have, such as a slide deck of landmarks, a set of logos or a stack of printed trivia pages. Ready-made printable sets exist, but they are written for everyone, so answers may not match the topics your regulars know.

  • Write each picture question so the answer is one clear, unambiguous name or term.
  • Mix easy and hard questions so every table has a chance to score.
  • Read each explanation before the night, so the host can answer follow-up questions.
  • Keep a backup set in case a photo or file does not display on the night.
Example general knowledge trivia questions

Questions from your own pages

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files or plain notes. Photos of printed trivia pages are read with text recognition, so existing material works too.

Multiple choice, true/false or open

Pick the question style that suits your round, and each question comes with an explanation the host can read out after the answer.

Flashcards for the teams who want practice

Turn the same material into flashcards with spaced repetition, so players can memorize answers before quiz night.

How it works

Upload your material

Add slides, a PDF, a DOCX file, notes or photos of trivia pages.

Choose the question type

Select multiple choice, true/false or short answer for each part of the round.

Export for quiz night

Export to PDF or DOCX on Plus, and to QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML on Pro.

DeckOwl writes the questions and answers from your uploads, so each round reflects the subjects you choose. Pair the questions with your own pictures, then check each one by reading it aloud to someone who has not seen the source.

Keep the round short enough that teams stay engaged, and cut any questions that repeat a topic.
