Turn your own notes into a quiz booklet ready to print
Skip the hunt for ready-made printable quizzes. Upload a PDF, slide deck or set of notes and DeckOwl writes multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations, ready to lay out as a booklet.
Designing a quiz booklet from your own material
A printed quiz only works if its questions match what was taught, so good quiz booklet design starts with your own notes, slides or readings rather than a generic template. DeckOwl drafts multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions with explanations from your files, so the booklet reflects your actual course.
- Keep question text short enough to fit the space you leave for answers.
- Group questions by topic so each section of the booklet matches one lesson.
- Place explanations in the answer key, not beside the questions.
- Proof the printed copy once at full size before making copies.
Built from your material
Questions come from the PDFs, slides, DOCX files, text or page photos you upload, so the booklet covers what you actually taught.
Explanations on every answer
Each multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer question includes an explanation, which makes the answer key useful for review.
Export when you need print files
Plus exports to PDF and DOCX for printing and editing. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning management systems.
How it works
Upload your source
Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file or a photo of a page. Text recognition reads images.
Choose question types
Pick multiple choice, true/false or open questions, then generate a set sized for your booklet.
Export and lay out
Review the questions, then export to PDF or DOCX on Plus and format the booklet in your layout tool.
Once the questions exist, apply a few standard print rules. Keep text at least 0.125 inch inside the trim line, extend any color that reaches the page edge into bleed, and use a page count that is a multiple of four if you plan to saddle-stitch the booklet. Put answers in a separate final section so students can test themselves before checking.
The free plan includes three generations per month and study in the browser, but no exports. PDF and DOCX export requires Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month, and no credit card is needed to start.
