How a quiz score generator helps before an exam

Most students want to know how they would score on questions they have not seen yet. A quiz score generator built on your own material gives you that practice. DeckOwl reads your notes or slides and writes multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, each with an explanation for the correct answer.

  • Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions from PDFs, slides, DOCX, PPTX, notes or photos
  • An explanation for each answer, so every miss points to the concept to review
  • Free plan with 3 generations per month, studied in the browser
  • PDF and DOCX export on Plus, and QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML export on Pro
Example score interpretation questions for statistics
What is a raw score on a test? The number of items answered correctly, before any conversion. It is the starting point for scaled and percentile scores.
What does a percentile rank of 80 mean? The score is at or above the scores of 80% of the comparison group. It does not state how many questions were answered correctly.
How is a z-score calculated?z = (x - mean) / standard deviation. It shows how many standard deviations a score is from the mean.
Why can two students with the same raw score get different scaled scores?Scaled scores depend on the difficulty of the test form and the conversion table used, so the same raw score can convert differently across versions.
Why report the median instead of the mean for skewed scores?A few very high or very low scores pull the mean away from the typical result, while the median stays at the middle score.

Multiple-choice, true/false and open questions

Pick the question type that fits your course. Each one is written from the material you upload.

Explanations for every answer

When you miss a question, the explanation shows the concept behind it so you know what to review.

Export when you need it

Plus exports to PDF and DOCX. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning management systems.

How it works

Upload your material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or a photo of a page.

Choose the question types

Select multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, then generate the set.

Answer, check and review

Work through the quiz, read the explanations for misses and study again until your results hold.

A score only helps if you can interpret it. A raw score is the count of items answered correctly. A percentile rank shows the share of a comparison group that scored at or below you. A z-score shows how many standard deviations a score sits above or below the mean. The explanation on each question points you to which of these ideas a miss came from.

The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser. Plus, at $39/year or $7.99/month, adds unlimited generations and PDF and DOCX export. Pro, at $14.99/month, adds a stronger AI model, bulk upload, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check whether I understand z-scores?

Work out a z-score by hand for a few values from a dataset you know, then compare your answer with the explanation. If the sign or direction is off, revisit how the mean is used in the formula.

Why do percentile ranks and raw scores mean different things?

A raw score counts correct answers, while a percentile rank compares your result with a group. Two students can have the same raw score and very different percentile ranks if the group performed differently.

Can I export quiz questions to a learning management system?

Yes, on the Pro plan at $14.99/month, which includes QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export. PDF and DOCX export are included with Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start. Exports require a paid plan.
