Why ready-made quizzes often miss your class

Ready-made Year 6 English quizzes cover general grammar, but your class is working through a specific text, spelling list or punctuation focus, so a quiz built from your own material matches what was actually taught.

  • Questions drawn from your own text rather than a generic bank
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short open questions
  • An explanation on every answer for self-correction
  • Free plan includes 3 generations a month, studied in the browser
Example Year 6 English practice questions
In the sentence 'Later that day, we visited the museum,' what is the fronted adverbial?'Later that day' is the fronted adverbial. It tells when the action happened and is followed by a comma, which separates it from the main clause.
In 'The dog that barked at the postman was old,' which word is the relative pronoun?'That' is the relative pronoun. It introduces the relative clause 'that barked at the postman', which gives more information about the dog.
Which punctuation joins two closely related independent clauses: 'It was raining; we stayed inside.'?A semicolon. It links two complete sentences of equal weight that are closely connected in meaning.
Change to the passive voice: 'The chef cooked the meal.''The meal was cooked by the chef.' The object of the active sentence becomes the subject, and the verb changes to the passive form.
Which is correct: 'The cat licked (its / it's) paw.'?'Its' is correct. It is a possessive pronoun, and possessive pronouns do not take an apostrophe. 'It's' only means 'it is' or 'it has'.

Built from your material

Questions come from the text you upload, so the quiz matches the spelling list, story or grammar topic your class covered this week.

Three question types

Choose multiple-choice, true/false or short open questions for a mix that tests recall and understanding.

Explanations on every answer

Each question includes a short explanation, so pupils can see why an answer is right or wrong and correct their own work.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX file, plain text or a photo of a page. Photos are read with text recognition.

Pick the question types

Select multiple-choice, true/false or open questions and how many you want from the material.

Study or practise

Work through the quiz in your browser. Exports to PDF or DOCX are available on the Plus plan.

DeckOwl reads PDFs, DOCX and PPTX files, plain notes and photos of pages. You choose multiple-choice, true/false or open questions, and each one includes an explanation so pupils learn from wrong answers as well as right ones.
