Turn your notes into quiz questions for your next class game
Upload your material and get multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions with explanations, ready for a review round your students will actually enjoy.
How to get questions ready for a class game
If you need a host game for class, DeckOwl is built for the question side of that job. It reads your own PDF, slides, DOCX, plain notes or a photo of a page, then writes multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions with explanations. It does not run live games with player codes, so you host the round yourself using the questions you copy or export.
- Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer questions from your own material
- Explanations written for each answer so the reveal teaches something
- Study in the browser on the free plan, with 5 generations a week
- Export to PDF or DOCX on Plus, and QTI 2.1 or Moodle XML on Pro
Questions from your material
Upload PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, plain notes or photos of pages and get a question set built from them.
Explanations included
Each question comes with a short explanation, so students see why an answer is right.
Export when you need it
Plus exports PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV. Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for learning systems.
How it works
Upload your material
Add a PDF, slide deck, document, notes or a photo of a page.
Choose a question type
Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer, then generate the set.
Review and run your round
Check the questions and explanations, then use them in your class game or review session.
Good review questions test one idea each, and wrong answers should be plausible but clearly incorrect. Start with 10 to 15 questions covering the lesson's key terms, then add a few that ask students to apply the idea. Explanations matter most after a wrong answer, because students learn the reason, not just the letter.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions should a review quiz have?
Ten to fifteen questions is a good range for a single review round, since it keeps the session short enough to finish. Use more if you are covering a full unit, and split it into rounds by topic.
What makes a good multiple-choice distractor?
A good wrong answer is a common misconception or a near-miss from the same topic, not an obviously silly option. Each question should have one clearly correct answer that a student can justify from the lesson.
Does DeckOwl host live games with player codes?
No. DeckOwl generates the questions and explanations, and you run any live round yourself with the questions you have.
Are exports included in the free plan?
No. The free plan lets you study in the browser with 5 generations a week. PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are on Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are on Pro.
