Skip the quizizz search and make quizzes from your own notes

Quiz libraries rarely match your lecture slides. DeckOwl turns your PDFs, slides or notes into multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions, each with an explanation.

Why a generated quiz beats a generic one

Quiz libraries are handy when a topic matches your course, but they rarely match your lecture slides or your professor's wording. A quizizz search returns other people's questions, which may cover different material or skip the parts your exam will test.

  • Questions match the wording in your own readings and slides
  • Multiple choice, true/false and short-answer formats in one set
  • Explanations show why each wrong option is wrong
  • Free plan includes 3 generations per month with no credit card needed
Example search and information-retrieval quiz questions
What does the AND operator do in a database search? It returns only records that contain all the joined terms. Each added AND term narrows the result set.
What does the NOT operator do in a Boolean query? It excludes records containing the term that follows it. This removes unwanted results but can also hide relevant ones.
What does putting a phrase in quotation marks do?It requires the exact phrase to appear in that order. Without quotes, the engine may match the words separately anywhere in the record.
What does an asterisk wildcard do in a search term like educat*?It matches any ending of the stem, such as education, educator or educated. This catches word variants you did not type.
What must be true before a binary search can be used on a list? The list must be sorted. Each comparison then discards half of the remaining items, so the search needs far fewer steps than checking every item.

Add a PDF, slide deck, Word file or plain text notes, or photograph a printed page.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions should I make for a search skills quiz?

Aim for 10 to 15 questions per chapter so each operator or search technique gets at least one check. Shorter sets are easier to retake before a lab or exam.

What is the best way to practice Boolean search operators?

Write a short query for each operator, predict how many results it should return, then run it and compare. Explaining why a result was excluded is what makes the operator stick.

Can I export the quiz?

PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are part of the Plus plan at $39/year or $7.99/month. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are included with Pro at $14.99/month.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and no credit card is needed to start.
