Why graphing questions are worth practicing with Desmos

Many SAT math questions ask you to read a graph, compare two lines or find where a curve crosses an axis, and those are much faster to check when you can plot them. SAT practice questions using Desmos work best when they match the functions your class has covered, such as linear systems, quadratics and exponential growth.

  • Choose multiple choice when you want quick checks on graph reading.
  • Use short answer questions to practice writing out your own equations.
  • Read the explanation after each miss, then graph the same function again in Desmos.
  • Regenerate a set from the same notes once you have worked through the first one.
Example SAT math questions you can check in Desmos
Lines y = 2x + 3 and y = 2x - 5 are graphed in the same plane. How many solutions does their system have?None. The lines have the same slope and different y-intercepts, so they are parallel and never intersect.
In vertex form, what is the vertex of the parabola y = (x - 3)^2 + 1?(3, 1). In y = a(x - h)^2 + k, the vertex is at (h, k).
Find the x-intercepts of y = x^2 - 5x + 6.x = 2 and x = 3. Factoring gives (x - 2)(x - 3), and each factor is zero at one of those values.
What value of k makes the line y = kx + 4 pass through (2, 10)?k = 3. Substituting gives 10 = 2k + 4, so 2k = 6 and k = 3.
In the exponential model y = 500(1.2)^t, what does the factor 1.2 represent?A growth factor of 1.2 per unit of t, which means the quantity grows by 20 percent each period.

Questions built from your material

Upload the algebra and function notes you already have, and the questions stay close to the topics you are actually studying.

Explanations for every answer

Each question comes with a written explanation, so a wrong answer shows you which step to recheck rather than just marking it red.

Three question formats

Choose multiple choice, true/false or short answer to match the way you want to practice, then regenerate a set when you need more.

How it works

Upload your notes

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text file or a photo of a page. Photos are read with text recognition.

Pick a question type

Select multiple choice, true/false or short answer, and DeckOwl writes questions with explanations from your material.

Work each one in Desmos

Graph the functions and check your answers with Desmos, then read the explanation for any question you missed.

The most useful practice comes from your own material. Upload your notes or a practice set, generate multiple-choice or open questions, and graph each one until the reasoning makes sense. Free accounts get 3 generations a month and can study in the browser, while Plus adds unlimited generations and PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export.

Frequently asked questions

Which SAT math topics benefit most from Desmos practice?

Topics with graphs are the strongest fit, including linear systems, quadratic vertices and intercepts, and exponential models. Plotting each function lets you confirm the answer instead of relying only on algebra.

How should I practice graphing questions with Desmos?

Work each question on paper first, then graph the functions to check your answer. When you miss one, reread the explanation and graph the same function with a changed constant to see how the shape responds.

Can I export the practice questions?

Free accounts study in the browser without exports. Plus includes PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. You can start on the free plan with 3 generations per month and no credit card. Students with a school email get 40% off Plus.
