How to prepare SAT practice questions for tutoring sessions

Students in Gables who book SAT tutoring often want a SAT practice test they can work through before the next session, not just a list of tips. DeckOwl does not offer tutoring in Gables or anywhere else, and it does not sell a ready-made SAT test. What it does is turn the material you already have, such as a prep booklet, class handouts or photos of practice pages, into a custom set of questions with explanations.

  • Pick the section you struggle with most before generating.
  • Retake the same set after a week to check what stuck.
  • Use explanations to find the step you skipped.
  • Export to PDF or DOCX on Plus to print for a session.
Example SAT practice questions with answers
If 3x + 7 = 22, what is the value of x?x = 5. Subtract 7 from both sides to get 3x = 15, then divide both sides by 3.
In a reading passage, the word candid most nearly means which of the following?Honest and direct. Candid describes speech that is open and frank, so it matches honest.
What is the slope of the line through (1, 4) and (3, 10)?3. Slope = (10 − 4) / (3 − 1) = 6 / 2 = 3.
True or false: In the sentence The team, along with its coaches, was ready, the verb should agree with team.True. The subject is team, so the singular verb was agrees, because the phrase along with its coaches does not change the subject.
What is the area of a circle with radius 4?16π. Area = πr² = π × 4² = 16π.

How it works

Add your SAT material

Upload a practice booklet, prep notes or a scanned page.

Choose the question type

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer, then generate the set.

Review and study

Work through each question, read the explanation, and bring weak spots to your tutoring session.

Start with the sections where your scores are lowest. Generate a short set on reading vocabulary, algebra or grammar, answer it without notes, then read each explanation before you check how you did. Bring the questions you missed to your tutor, who can walk you through the reasoning behind the right choice.

Plain-text notes and scanned pages are read with text recognition, so older photocopies work too. Questions are only as good as the source, so check each one against your booklet before you rely on it for a practice session.

Frequently asked questions

How should I structure SAT practice sessions?

Shorter focused sets in one section are easier to review than a long test taken all at once. A timed run once a week helps you get used to pacing.

How do I study the questions I got wrong?

Write down why each missed question was wrong, such as a misread word or a skipped step, and look for patterns across the set. Then retry similar questions until the same mistake stops appearing.

Does DeckOwl offer SAT tutoring in Gables?

No. DeckOwl is a study tool that makes practice questions from your own material, and it does not provide tutors or in-person sessions. A local tutor can review the questions with you.

Can I export practice questions for free?

No. The free plan lets you study in the browser with 3 generations per month but has no exports. PDF and DOCX export come with Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML come with Pro.
