How to get the hardest SAT math practice test

When the real exam is hard, easy drills don't prepare you. A hardest SAT math practice test should push on multi-step word problems, data questions and the algebra you find slow, and DeckOwl builds one from the practice booklets and notes you already have. It does not pull official College Board questions, so start with the material you own.

  • Start with the topics that cost you the most points, such as systems of equations or nonlinear functions.
  • Mix question types so you practice recognizing which method a problem needs.
  • Redo missed questions after a day or two instead of only reading the answer.
  • Keep a short list of formulas and the mistakes you make on each one.
Example hardest SAT math practice questions
If 3x + 7 = 2x − 5, what is the value of x?x = −12. Subtracting 2x and 7 from both sides isolates x.
What are the zeros of f(x) = x² − 6x + 8?x = 2 and x = 4, because (x − 2)(x − 4) expands to x² − 6x + 8.
A right triangle has legs of length 9 and 12. What is the hypotenuse?15. The Pythagorean theorem gives 9² + 12² = 81 + 144 = 225, and √225 = 15.
What is the slope of the line through (1, 3) and (4, 12)?3. Slope is (12 − 3) divided by (4 − 1), which equals 9 divided by 3.
If 2^(x + 1) = 32, what is x?x = 4. Since 32 = 2^5, the exponents must match, so x + 1 = 5.

Multiple-choice and open questions

Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer, and get an explanation for every answer.

Built from your material

Upload PDFs, slides, DOCX files, notes or photos of pages, and the questions come from that text.

Export when you need it

Plus exports to PDF and DOCX, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for class quizzes.

How it works

Upload your practice material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or photo of the problems you want to drill.

Choose the question type

Select multiple choice, true/false or short answer, then generate the set.

Work through and review

Answer each question, read the explanation, and revisit anything you missed.

Difficulty comes from combining skills: a quadratic hidden inside a word problem, or a graph you must read before you can set up an equation. Work through a mixed set, check every wrong answer against its explanation, and come back to the same topics in a few days rather than cramming one long session.

Frequently asked questions

What makes SAT math questions hard?

Hard SAT math items usually combine two skills, such as a quadratic inside a word problem or a graph you must interpret before writing an equation. Practicing single-step problems alone will not build that combined skill.

How should I review after a hard practice set?

Read the explanation for every missed question, then redo those questions without looking at the answer. Spacing the review across several days helps more than one long cram session.

Does DeckOwl include official SAT questions?

No. It generates questions from the material you upload, so use official practice tests or booklets you already have as your source.

Which plans let me export practice tests?

Exports are paid features. PDF and DOCX export are included in Plus, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are included in Pro. The free plan lets you study in the browser.
