How to build a Harvard SAT practice test from your own material

DeckOwl is not affiliated with Harvard and does not provide official SAT questions, so the practical route to a Harvard SAT practice test is to build one from the prep material you already own.

  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions generated from your own PDFs, slides or notes
  • Written explanations for every answer so review focuses on the reasoning
  • Spaced repetition on flashcards pulled from the same material for long-term recall
  • Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV on Plus, with QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML on Pro
Example SAT practice questions with answers
If 3x + 7 = 22, what is the value of x?x = 5. Subtracting 7 from both sides gives 3x = 15, and dividing by 3 gives x = 5.
Can a comma alone join two independent clauses on the SAT?No. Two complete sentences joined only by a comma form a comma splice, so you need a semicolon, a period, or a comma with a coordinating conjunction like and or but.
What does a command of evidence question ask you to do?Pick the quote or data that best supports a specific claim. The correct choice must directly back the claim, not just relate to the same topic.
What is the slope of the line through (1, 4) and (3, 10)?3. Slope equals the change in y divided by the change in x, so (10 - 4) / (3 - 1) = 6 / 2 = 3.
Is a calculator allowed on the entire digital SAT?No. A calculator is allowed on the Math section but not on the Reading and Writing section, so you should practice math problems with the same tool you will use on test day.
Generate the full set

Built from your material

Upload a PDF chapter, a slide deck, a DOCX handout or a photo of a page, and the questions come from that content.

Explanations on every question

Each answer includes a reason, so a missed question teaches you the rule behind it instead of just marking it wrong.

Study in the browser

The free plan lets you take practice quizzes online with 3 generations per month, and paid plans add exports for offline review.

How it works

Upload your prep material

Add a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text notes or photos of pages from your SAT prep.

Choose your question types

Pick multiple choice, true/false or short answer, then generate a set sized for one practice session.

Take it, review, and repeat

Answer the questions, read each explanation, and rerun the missed topics until they stick.

Upload a chapter from a prep book, a teacher handout or your own class notes, and the AI writes questions that match that content, each with an explanation. Paid plans can export the set as PDF or DOCX, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML for schools that run quizzes in a learning management system.

Mix question types in one session, then revisit the items you missed. Because every answer has a written explanation, you can check your reasoning on reading and math problems before test day.

Frequently asked questions

How should I use practice tests to prepare for the SAT?

Take timed sections under realistic conditions, then spend more time reviewing explanations than you spent answering. Track which question types you miss most, such as command of evidence or linear equations, and drill those topics next.

What SAT topics should a custom practice test cover?

Cover the Reading and Writing categories, including command of evidence and standard English conventions, plus the Math content areas like linear equations and data analysis. Generate questions from your own prep books or class notes so the set matches what you are studying.

Is DeckOwl free to start?

Yes, the free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, and you do not need a credit card to begin. Exports are paid features.

Which export formats are paid?

PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV export are on Plus at $39/year or $7.99/month, and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export are on Pro at $14.99/month. Students get 40% off with a school email.
