Why build your own SAT practice test

A printed Kaplan book is one source, but many students need Kaplan-style SAT practice tests built around the exact chapters their class covered and the mistakes they keep making.

  • Multiple-choice questions for grammar, reading and math topics from your own prep notes
  • True/false checks for rules like subject-verb agreement and punctuation
  • Short-answer prompts that make you explain your reasoning before you see the solution
  • Explanations on every question so each mistake becomes a lesson
Example SAT math and grammar practice questions
If 3x + 7 = 22, what is the value of x?x = 5. Subtract 7 from both sides to get 3x = 15, then divide both sides by 3.
Which verb completes the sentence correctly: Neither of the students ___ finished the lab report?was. Neither is singular, so it takes the singular verb was even though students is plural.
What is the slope of the line that passes through (0, 4) and (2, 10)?3. Slope is the change in y divided by the change in x, so (10 - 4) / (2 - 0) = 3.
In a reading passage, what does it mean if an argument is described as tenuous? The argument is weak or flimsy and lacks solid support, because tenuous means held by a thin or fragile connection.
What is the area of a circle with a radius of 4?16π. The area formula is A = πr², so A = π(4²) = 16π.

Built from your material

Upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX, text file or a photo of a page, and the questions come from what you actually studied.

Explanations on every question

Each answer comes with a short explanation, so a wrong pick teaches you the rule you missed.

Spaced repetition for review

Missed questions come back on a schedule, so the grammar and math rules you keep forgetting get more practice.

How it works

Upload your prep material

Add the chapter PDF, class slides or your own notes from a Kaplan book or teacher handout.

Choose the question types

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short-answer questions and generate a quiz in the browser.

Work through and review

Take the quiz, read each explanation, and rerun the questions you missed until they stick.

DeckOwl reads your files and writes questions that match your notes, so you can practice the reading, grammar and math topics you actually need to review before test day.

Free accounts can study in the browser with three generations a month. Plus and Pro add unlimited generations and exports for printing or importing into other tools.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I take SAT practice tests?

Most students do better with regular short sessions than with one long marathon. Review every wrong answer before taking the next set so you can see whether the same mistake repeats.

What is the best way to study wrong answers on SAT practice?

Read the explanation, write down the rule you missed in your own words, and then redo the question a day or two later. Spaced review makes that rule easier to recall under timed conditions.

Does DeckOwl include official Kaplan or SAT questions?

No. DeckOwl creates questions only from the files you upload, so use your own prep books, handouts or notes as the source.

Can I export my SAT practice questions?

Exports to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV are part of the Plus plan at $39 per year or $7.99 per month. QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML exports are on the Pro plan.
