Why official practice tests are not enough on their own

College Board publishes official SAT practice tests for free, and they are the closest match to the real exam. Once you have worked through them, most students need more questions on the same skills, and those are hard to find in the same format.

  • Use official tests under timed conditions first to get a baseline score.
  • Generate custom quizzes from the same skill areas you missed.
  • Review every explanation, including the questions you got right by luck.
  • Move missed questions into flashcards and review them over several days.
Example SAT math and reading practice questions
If 3x + 7 = 22, what is the value of x?x = 5. Subtracting 7 from both sides gives 3x = 15, and dividing by 3 gives x = 5.
Does the SAT deduct points for wrong answers? No. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so it is best to answer every question.
What is the slope of the line y = -2x + 5?-2. In slope-intercept form y = mx + b, the coefficient m is the slope.
Does a colon need a complete sentence before it?Yes. A colon introduces a list, quotation or explanation after an independent clause.
Is the digital SAT adaptive between modules?Yes. The second module in each section is selected based on how well you did on the first module.

DeckOwl generates new questions from the material you already own, such as a prep book, a teacher handout or your own notes. Each quiz includes explanations, so you can see why the right answer works and where your reasoning went wrong.

Plus adds unlimited generations and PDF or DOCX export for printing a set. Pro adds bulk upload and QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML export for teachers who run practice in a learning system.

Frequently asked questions

Does the SAT take away points for wrong answers?

No. The SAT does not deduct points for incorrect answers, so you should answer every question, even when you are unsure. Reviewing explanations helps you learn which guesses are worth making.

How should I use practice tests when studying for the SAT?

Take a full practice test under timed conditions, then review every missed question and note the skill behind it. Revisit those skills with a fresh quiz a few days later so the fix sticks.

Can I export my SAT practice quiz?

Yes. Plus lets you export to PDF and DOCX, and Pro also exports QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML. The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports.

Do I need a credit card to try DeckOwl?

No. You can start on the free plan with 3 generations per month and no credit card. Students with a school email get 40% off Plus.
