Turn your notes into trivia questions for your game
DeckOwl reads your PDFs, slides, notes or page photos and drafts trivia questions with answers and explanations. You write the game logic, and we give you the questions to load into it.
How the code for a trivia game fits together
Writing trivia game code is mostly three jobs: store the questions, loop through them, and score each answer. DeckOwl handles the question side by turning your notes into trivia-style items, while you write the logic that runs the game.
- Store each question as a dictionary with question, options and answer keys.
- Use a for loop to ask questions and a counter to track the score.
- Normalize text with .strip() and .lower() before comparing answers.
- Shuffle questions with random.shuffle() so rounds do not repeat in the same order.
Questions from your material
Upload PDFs, slides, notes or photos of pages and get multiple-choice, true/false or open questions with explanations.
Answers you can check
Every question includes the correct answer and a short explanation, so you can verify each item before it goes into your game.
Export for your tools
Paid plans export to PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
How it works
Upload your notes
Add a PDF, slides, a DOCX file, plain text or a photo of a page.
Generate trivia-style questions
Choose multiple choice, true/false or open questions, then review the explanations.
Write the game code
Load the questions into your program as a list, then add a loop, a score and an answer check.
Most beginner projects use a list of dictionaries, where each entry holds a question, its choices and the correct answer. A for loop reads each entry, input() collects the player's reply, and a counter adds one point for every match.
Compare answers after normalizing them, because a player typing 'paris ' should still score against 'Paris'. Shuffling with random.shuffle() keeps the question order different each round.

Frequently asked questions
How do I store trivia questions in Python?
A common approach is a list of dictionaries, with one dictionary per question that has keys for the question text, the answer choices and the correct answer. You can then loop over the list to ask each question in turn.
How do I check a trivia answer without case or spacing errors?
Run both the player's reply and the correct answer through .strip() and .lower() before comparing them. This lets 'Paris ' match 'paris' so players are not marked wrong for small typing differences.
Does DeckOwl write the game code for me?
No, DeckOwl generates trivia-style questions, answers and explanations from your own material. You can load that content into any program you write, and the game logic stays with you.
Can I export my trivia questions?
The free plan lets you study in the browser without exports. Plus adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV exports, and Pro adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
