Why build your own vocabulary quiz

A Jetpunk-style quiz is fun for general knowledge, but course vocabulary comes from your own readings. A vocabulary quiz built from your word list tests the exact terms your teacher will use, in the context where you first met them.

  • Questions drawn from your own material, not generic word lists
  • Multiple-choice, true/false and short answer formats
  • Explanations for every correct answer
  • Export to Anki or Moodle on paid plans
Example vocabulary quiz questions
What does "benevolent" mean?Well-meaning and kind. It comes from Latin bene, "well," plus volens, "wishing."
Which word means "lasting only a very short time": ephemeral, perpetual or durable?Ephemeral. It comes from Greek ephēmeros, "lasting a day," while perpetual means lasting forever.
Is "ubiquitous" a synonym for "rare"?False. Ubiquitous means present everywhere, so it is close to "universal" and the opposite of rare.
What does the prefix "mal-" mean in "malnourished"?Bad or poorly. Malnourished means poorly nourished, and the same prefix appears in malfunction.
What does "candid" mean?Honest and direct. It comes from Latin candidus, "white" or "bright," which came to mean open and sincere.

How it works

Add your words

Upload your word list, reading or notes as a file or a photo.

Choose question types

Pick multiple-choice, true/false or short answer questions for the quiz.

Study and review

Take the quiz in your browser and read each explanation after you answer.

Explanations matter as much as the score. When a question shows why an answer is right, you learn the root, the context and how the word differs from similar ones.

Frequently asked questions

How many words should I put in one vocabulary quiz?

Most students stay focused with 15 to 25 words per session, so each explanation gets read. Split longer lists into themed sets, such as one per reading unit.

What is the fastest way to remember new vocabulary words?

Test yourself instead of rereading, and space your reviews over several days so the words move into long-term memory. Read each explanation after a wrong answer to learn the root and context.

Can I make a vocabulary quiz for free?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 generations per month and studying in the browser, but exports require a paid plan.

Can I export a vocabulary quiz to Moodle or Anki?

Anki export is included in Plus, and Moodle XML and QTI 2.1 export are on the Pro plan. Students with a school email get 40% off, and no credit card is needed to start.
