Turn any YouTube video into a quiz with AI
DeckOwl does not fetch YouTube links directly, so copy the transcript or your notes from the video and upload them as text, a PDF or a DOCX file.
What a YouTube video quiz can and cannot do
Lectures and explainer videos are easy to watch and hard to recall a week later. Making an AI quiz from a YouTube video takes a few minutes when you start with the transcript, because the questions come from the words actually spoken in the video.
- Copy the transcript from the Show transcript panel and remove timestamps before uploading.
- Choose a lecture or explainer rather than a music video, since informational content makes better quiz material.
- Review each explanation against the video before you rely on it for an exam.
- Generate a second quiz from the same notes a few days later to test what you kept.
Quiz from your text
Paste a transcript or notes, or upload a PDF, DOCX, PPTX or a photo of a page.
Mixed question types
Multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions, each with an explanation of the answer.
Study in the browser
The Free plan includes 3 generations a month. Plus and Pro add exports and more.
How it works
Get the transcript
Open the video's transcript panel on YouTube or write up your own notes on it.
Upload or paste
Save the text as a file or paste it in, then add it to DeckOwl.
Choose and study
Pick the question types, generate the quiz, and read the explanation for each answer.
The quality depends on the source. A clean transcript from a lecture or documentary gives sharper questions than auto-captions full of filler, so skim it and fix obvious errors before you generate. Check every answer against the video, since any AI quiz can get a detail wrong.
Short-answer questions build recall, while true/false is quicker for catching misconceptions. Mix both types to test different kinds of memory.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions should a quiz from one video have?
Start with 10 to 15 questions for a 10-minute video. Shorter sets are easier to repeat, and you can generate another set from the same transcript later.
How should I study a quiz made from a video?
Answer each question before you check the explanation, then revisit missed ones after a day or two. Spacing out repeats usually helps more than one long session.
Can DeckOwl import a YouTube link directly?
No. DeckOwl accepts PDF, DOCX, PPTX, plain text and images, so copy the transcript or your notes into one of those formats first.
Which export formats are included?
The Free plan has no exports. Plus, at $9.99 a month or $99.90 a year, adds PDF, DOCX, Anki and CSV, and Pro at $14.99 a month adds QTI 2.1 and Moodle XML.
